Have hoped to run into one of the old Lyman 457/8 Collar button molds at gun shows for years, and had no luck. Have always wanted to try some of this gallery bullet in 45-70, as much for kicks as anything. Have played around with roundball loads/single and double in 45-70, and they do ok, but are limited range wise to about 20-25 yds. Think the old collar buttons might go out to 50 or so. Anywho, if anybody out there has the mold or has 50 or so of the bullets, would like to buy some of these. Thanks in advance to whoever answers this thread.

.............1 Shirt, I can't help ya out as I don't have the mould. I'm answering because I remember how funny I thought it was when Lyman re-introduced it for a short run. They said they'd "Found" it (the cherry), but never said where or anything, just that they had. And, I suppose to celebrate the fact that they HAD found it, lets make us some moulds with it, what say?

Not that at any time one of their cherry cutters couldn't have whipped one out if they'd a mind too.

If you ask BuckShot nice he might take a 457 lee round ball mold and bore a short base band in it for you, I have one Dad did that with, works slick.

1 Shirt;
For a plinker for my .45-70, I got a Lee 90383 mold, with a slight amount of beagling, it casts .458 + and weighs 214gr.
This is the mold for the Ruger Old Army c&b revolver.
Up to 1200fps, I just use wws, air cooled, for more zip, I turn the shank in my minilathe and put on gcs at .458 in the Lee sizer.
Liquid alox or LBT soft blue have been fine as lubes, even at 2000fps.

There was a mold on ebone last week, #7178682483, sold for 66$

There is a outfit in Montana selling cast bullets.

NEI also has a copy of this bullet.
