Scope mount on old Marlin 336

Could not find scope mounts for an old Marlin 336 that has the front tapped holes on the barrel. Called Weaver help line, fella said they have nothing. Rummaged through my goodie box and found a see through that fit the barrel and modified another to fit the receiver. I clamped the rifle in a padded vice put a accurate small level on the receiver and ground the base of the rear ring until that was level. Works good, just bought a Nicon scope because of its generous eye relief. Myself I don't like scopes on lever woods rifles, but just to develop loads, then back to peeps. Frank C.
