Anyone casting 25cal?
I have ordered rcbs 120gr mould.
will use in 25-35 with gas checks.
what is your favorite load?

Your next step is to order a Lee nose first sizer. Those long skinny bullets bend really easy if you're base first sizing.

The .25-35 is not picky. Mine shot about every load I threw at it but I had rebarrelled with a 1-10 twist./beagle

Thanks Beagle, I also have 1-10.

I shoot the similar .25 Remington(rimless .25-35), but it has a slightly larger case capacity. Still looking for "The Load" that will also cycle the action on my Rem Model 8, but Unique works well for as usual in light plinking loads with an NEI 114gr bullet. I have used WC844(H-335) and WC846(BLC-2) with good results in ~2000fps loads. Listen to beagle's advise about not bending them if you use a sizer like my Lyman. Bananas don't fly very straight.

I have been playing with a 80 grain in a 250 sav and a 25x39.

They soot good and knock the snot out of coyotes.
Fun to play with.

I shoot lots of 80 grain GC bullets in my two 25-20s. This is the only caliber where I favor the use of linotype metal. It helps give a good fill out and crisp cast bullets on these smaller mold cavities.

I use a 257388 in my 257 Rob. It seams to like it quite nicely. Infact I think it will be my deer load this year.

In what is now my daughter's .257R, 18.0 grs. IMR4227 works dandy with that boolit, as does 24.0 grs. IMR 4198. However those loads might be just a touch too much for some .25-35 actions so be careful!

NOE has an Group Buy thread for interest in a copy of Ideal/Lyman's 257(260)-325 about 113 grains in the round nose version. I believe there will be a flat nose version available for those who may want it that way. Drawings are posted for both versions.

I shoot the 100g RCBS and 100g Cramer 55A in my .250 Sav bolt guns. Both give great accuracy with 5744, 4759 and Reloder 7. I've tried the 120g RCBS, but have not had much luck with it. I recently golombed onto a Saeco 100g, but have not loaded any up yet as my current crop of cases were all stuffed this past winter!

I picked up an old Ideal spire pointed mold (103 gr.) last year for my Sav. 250. Makes beautiful boolits. Still working on the right powder since 4759 and 5744 weren't good enough (3-1/2" at 100). Will be trying 2400 and 4198 next. I hope to find the right powder that will give me the accuracy at an MV of about 1900 fps.

I'm kinda partial to this boolit. :)

it's a 100gr 25 cal that I'm shooting in my 25-223 AR.

this NOE mould.

Looking at the drawing it shows a meplate of .130" that is exactly 50% of the boolit diameter. That seems about right for medium range shooting. What kind of velocity are you getting with that 100gn boolit in your 25/223?
It should do a little better than my 6mm/223 with a 100 gn boolit.
I am in the market for a new 25 cal mold but I have been leaning toward the RCBS 120gn. I will be shooting from bigger cases though 25/284 and 25/06. Also looking at the 120gn with PP in mind for a 6.5/57 I have and a 6.5/06 Ackley I hope to build.

Not sure on the velocity.

That design was set up for 3 boolit wts if I recall correctly.

NOE should be able to make a 120gr one, he just needs some nudging to put the drawing and stuff up on his site.

This was from a group buy a while ago, you could get all 3 wts in one block if you wanted. :)

""you could get all 3 wts in one block if you wanted.""
That's an interesting idea!

Will the 120grn stabilise in a 1-12 twist?. Pat

Does anyone have any experience with the 65 grain Lyman cast bullet in .25. Am interested in 25/223. I see MGM makes a barrel for the contender. Have a 7mm TCU and love it. shoot old Lyman 120 grain ?GC bullets and is very accurate. dd

Probably not.

Probably not. That was the problem with the Remington 25-06 and I could only stabilize the 117gr Sierra and smaller. I could not stabilize the 120. 1-10 is what is needed for the longer boolits.

Not 25/223, but I shoot the Lyman 257420 in a 25-06. Best accuracy is 19.5gr 4198 with dacron filler at about 1950fps out of a 24" barrel. The flat point makes a distinct "plop" when it hits a ground hog. I also shoot the Lyman 257454 in the same gun, but the lighter bullet gives better accuracy. Kind of unexpected, as the gun showed a definite preference for heavier bullets when shooting jacketed.
