I am looking to replace my 22or shooting with my tiger 77/22 hornet shooting the lee bator mold which casts at right around 50 grains w/o gc. to duplicate the 22or I was thinking about 3grains of unique to start with. any input on alloy would be appreciated as well, was thinking pure lino but that seems like it would be a waste so I was also thinking 3:1 pure:limo but any input would be appreciated.

I use straight ACWW with 2.7 Bullseye and CCI small pistol primer. No complaints from squirrels, rabbits snakes and coons. I really like a Lyman 225438 and have been using Ranch Dog's 55 grain boolit with that huge meplat, really smacks things when propelled by 4 gr Unique.

Don't overlook Trail Boss.

An old thread.

It takes 1.4gr of Bullseye to give 1,000 to ~1,100fps from the .22Hornet and the Bator bullet.
2.7gr gives ~1,500fps and is loud!
4.5gr Unique gives 2,000-2,100fps and is more slightly more powerful than a .22wmr.

My rifle doesn't like the Bator bullet as much as my Lyman 22541 (predecessor to 225415). Cast weight of the two bullets is essentially identical.
Also, my rifle "insists" on .225" sizing.
I use w/w with nothing added...
For .22lr equivalent loads, I tumble-lube and don't even size... No need to "waste" a gas-check in these loads.

Thanks for the bulls eye load, it gives me a place to start with the 16# of red dot I have. That said would a 3:1 mix of range scrap:lino get me close to we alloy? Also would you recommend water dropping these bullets? I am thinking about picking up the Lee universal expander die as well as the Lee FCC for 22 hornet. Would I be better off with the Lyman m die?

I like the Lee Collet die for my Hornets. I have some cases that have been reloaded fifteen times and are still good to go. As far as Bullseye goes I started with 225438 sized 225 with no gas check and 1.5 gr Bullseye but there was not enough accuracy for squirrels. My accuracy didn't show up until I started using gas checks and 2.3 gr Bullseye. Then I was rewarded with sub 1 inch groups out past 50 yds. As far as loudness goes, here in the Texas Panhandle the wind always blows and my shooting does not seem to alert other potential targets. It is movement that causes squirrels to get antsy. I like head shots so there is little to no meat loss. YMMV so have fun, Hornets are very versatile hope you find what you are looking for.

Mine likes 4.5 grains of 2400. a little hotter than a long rifle but slower than a mag. minute of squirrel head out to fifty yards with a decent rest. easy on the brass.

My Ruger 77/22 Hornet and my Raging Hornet pistol both like the 225-438 better than the Bator boolit. I get good results with a number of powders.

I agree with DLCTEX, just what our guns are telling us. I'm trying to get the same results from my copy of Ranch Dog's 22 mould. It has a much bigger meplat so it will really thump when it hits. Hit a coyote behind the shoulder just under 100 yds at about 2100 fps second and the smack was very loud , took two steps and took a dirt knap LOL.

The 225438HP over 3.5 grains of Unique and a small pistol primer gives me a .22 WMR load and is deadly on blackbirds in My M77 Hornet./beagle
