Is there a cast load in the Whelen that IS NOT accurate? Here is the result of fireforming a 10-shot sting this last weekend. Loaded with the Accurate 360-280B cast @15bhn. This is going to be fun! I am positive that I can cut this down to an easy 1moa load. It is still a toss-up on which “tool” to take moose hunting this fall……the Whelen Imp or my .375GP. Scope was a 2 3/4X off crappy rest.

I have that same mold. I've just started testing it at 50yds on a peep-sighted 358W. Eventually I'll try it in a scoped rifle at 100yds. It's a fine looking boolit, and I prefer the flat on the nose over the original 358009 design. Looks perfect setting on Wheelen brass. It should penetrate into eternity. What velocity are you wanting to get it up to for your moose hunt?

Am hoping for around 2300. My shoulder is the limiting factor. I launched (20) 280gr'ers, (20) 250gr"ers and then to make sure that I would get a migraine, (8) 350gr 375GP's. I ordered a lead sled today......

Fellas-- 48g of AA 4064 and the original Lyman 358009 gives me 2150 fps from a 24" bbl regular .35 Whelen. That load has accounted for 2 bull moose and 1 bull elk and countless deer. Accuracy is around 1-1/2" at 100 yds with a heat treated Bhn 27g boolit. (5 shot gp)

51gr of IMR-4064 pushes that 350 grainer out the skinny end of my .375GP at 2001fps.
51gr of IMR-4895 at 1978fps.

This thread is right on time. I've been thinking hard about the NOE or Accurate mould in that very boolit for my whelen. Just about through working with a 200 gr. boolit and ready for something else to play with lol. I had asked about velocity with that boolit on another thread and never got an answer so i'm glad i saw this.
I'll be watching this with interest!

Timely thread indeed. I've had a few inaccurate 35 Whln loads but mostly because I didn't push them fast enough, bedding the recoil lug helped too. What 250 gr boolit were you shooting, Scheutzenboomer?

Hi, I'm new to this, commenting I mean, I've been a lurker for many years. Going though the same thing, working up a good load for a NEI 358 282 GC bullet in my 35 Whelem. Casts at 301gr and with gas check and lube it's at 306gr. I'm up to 48.0gr IMR4064 and need to give the shoulder a break. Thinking about joining those guys shooting 6.5s for a while. I found 42.0gr to be pleasant to shoot and accurate at 50 yds. Right now I'm limiting myself to 50 yds because my scope has grown foggy over the last year and I need to replace it. I also want a faster load. Looking for upwards of 2300 if I can. Going for group first then, I'll chrono.

sufferin succotash! 300gr at 2300 fps! You better have one really FAT recoil pad under several layers of jackets and a real heavy rifle to absorb the recoil!

Plus, I don't think there is anything in North America that will hold a 300gr bullet at 2000 fps, so you should be good to go!

Blammer, I think it weighs about 9 LB, made it intentionally fat in the forend and it wears a 1" thick, large decelerator pad. Balances and goes to the shoulder like a 7 1/2 LB rifle. I last shot on a nice 70 degree day with no coat, two weeks ago. Shot it 30 rounds with 46-48gr. 42gr seemed like a great load but, needs a tweak or two. I just want to "try" to get 2300 or more. It's already pretty uncomfortable to shoot. I don't have much case capacity left, I loaded some with 49 and 50 gr and I'm getting close. Not much jingling around in there anymore. You should see the hole it leaves in the berm! I haven't recovered a fired bullet yet, ground was still frozen underneath.

Ordered that very boolit from NOE. Should be here mon. or tues., guess i'll be finding out how my 35 whelen Encore likes it soon. I like flat nosed boolits but there's something about how a big old round nose boolit looks loaded up and ready to go. Got a pb and gc in the same mould. Plain base oughta be fun to play with around 1200 to 1500 fps.:D
