All these years I've been smelting wheelweights, I have skimmed off the steel clips right after they all free up and float to the top. I thought it was normal that most of them had "gunk" clinging to them when I removed them. After reading a few times from you guys (it takes a few times of being told something for it to sink in!) to flux BEFORE removing them, I did it last night. Wow! All the clips were free from gunk, and apparently the gunk was mixed back into the alloy and was tin or Antimony. Boy, I hate to think of all the valuable alloy I have wasted over the years because of something as simple as the order you do things. Thanks to all of you that pass on hints on how to get the most of our pours!
