I want to load up some 311299s for my Garand using the 40grns of H4831 load, but all I can lay my hands on is H4831SC. Would this work well, or does the shorter kernals effect the burn negatively?
Also.... does anybody use IMR4831 in their Garand, and if so, do you still use 40 grains?
Thanks-

FatElvis,
.
H4831sc is the same powder as H4831. Its cut short or "Short Cut" to meter better through powder measure and the like. 40 grains in a '06 is not compressed by any means.
.
I do not reload for the Garand, but I've heard that the slower powder loads can damage the internals of the action. You might like to read up on that before continuing.
.
I hope this helps.

Uber, thank you for the heads up. Normally, when using jacketed bullets, 4831 would not be used, due to it's slower burn rate. When using cast boolits, the propellant choices change. I have read up extensively on this, by many who shoot Garands and other semi-autos extensively. But once again, I appreciate your comment.

The short cut Hodgdon 4831 powder is also reputed to be less temperature sensitive than the previous long cut version. Probably not an issue for cast boolit shooters, but of interest to hunters using maximum loads with jacketed bullets.
