Gentlemen,

This is the kick off of the 32/8mm GC lightweight group buy. Sorry for the delay, I had unforseen work and internet issues after I volunteered to honcho this GB. All is well now and we are ready to start.

The group buy will be for a Lee 6 cavity mold. It is a gascheck design, spec'd to weigh in at 135grs when cast of wheelweights. We're shooting for a diameter of .326" on the driving bands and .313" on the nose. Drawing is below. Cost will be $65.00 per mold, which will include shipping in the cont. USA, a mold for the designer, and some extra funds to be donated to CastBoolits. Multiple mold orders will get a break on shipping. Of course, price is assuming we hit the required minimum for an order, and may be changed if need be and agreed to. DO NOT SEND FUNDS YET!! When we get close to the required # of orders, I'll post a "last call" and then send payment information to all who have indicated that they want a mold. Personal check or money order will be fine, NO PAYPAL.

Please post your interest, number of molds desired (if more than one) and zip code in this thread. As we get close to 25 responses, I'll set it up on the GB website.

More details will be posted here as they become available.

Please bear with me on this one, it's my first GB.

Thanks

We've had some pretty good products from Lee lately, and I don't have anything in this weight catagory for the .32 Special, or the 8mm for that matter.

Gents,
Chances are real good that I'll get in on this GB.I like this lightweight idea.I have a
Win.m94 .32ws that is a dedicated cast bullet shooter.I do have some questions.
How well do expect this shorter bullet to shoot in a 1-16in. twist barrel?
Is this a tumble lube design? If not,do you think it'll work ok using Lee's lube and size kit?
Is it possible to see detailed dimensions on the bullet drawing?
I assume the mould come with handles?
I'm in no hurry so keep it open for awhile longer.
Thanks guys,
Vic

singleshotbuff
01-30-2008, 01:55 PM
Vic,

I'm not sure on the twist question, someone else will chime in on that.

It is not a tumble lube design, it has conventional lube grooves. Some people use, and have good luck with, Lee sizers and conventional lube grooved bullets.

45 2.1 will have to chime in with detailed dimensions for you.

The mold DOES NOT come with handles, the handles are available seperately from suppliers such as MidwayUSA.

Any more questions, fire away.

The diameter is spec'd at 0.326". With the loverin type bands, it will size easily down to about 0.321" with little distortion. We've done this with several other GBs of this band type and it works fine.

I'll leave this open for another week or so, if no one speaks up by that time I'll pay for the last mold myself and just resell it later.

Gentlemen,

Sorry it has taken so long, I had some personal things to deal with (long story involving trespassers and the police), ANYWAY......

I don't want to wait any longer for someone else to join this buy. I'm going to close the buy next Sunday, May 18th. If we don't have 25 by then (we need one more), I'm just going to pay for the 25th mold myself. May resell it later. I really want to get this off to Lee, we've waited long enough, I'd like to shoot some of these boolits while I'm still relatively young lol.

So, if you want in on this buy, PLEASE SPEAK UP NOW.

Thanks

Such are the hazards of a Honcho, there is also one more thing we could do. May I put forth one more plain. If we each kick in the extra $ for the 25th mould and then put it up for auction after the moulds are recieved for the bennifit of the board. Just a thought what say you and All involved?

Gentlemen,

This buy is closed, although a lot later than I wanted. I'm going to pay for the 25th mold myself so we can get this ball rolling. If anyone comes to this thread late, and is interested in the extra mold, please PM me.

I'll get this buy off to Lee within a week or so, then we can begin the wait. Not sure what the turn around is from Lee at present, but I'll be surprised if we get these molds this year.

I'll post periodic updates here.

Thanks to all who participated in this buy.

Thanks for the Honcho and picking up the slack on this GB. No need to worry about how long it takes Lee, we all understand (I'm sure) of there poduction time. The quality of Lee's moulds has improved, better to wait for something shootable then to get less then usable mould.

Hope the invadors (trespasser) has worked out in your best intress at min. $$$$.

Gentlemen,

I am afraid I have really bad news. On friday, 2/27/09, I called Lee to check the status of this buy. The lady who answered the phone told me that she couldn't locate the paperwork and that she would have the lady who handles these buys (Mary), call me back after she returned from lunch. An hour or so goes by, no call, so I called back and was told that Mary was still out and would call me as soon as she returned. Mary never called me on friday.

So today (monday 3/2/09), I called Lee again. After a bit of shuffling, I was put on the phone with Mary. She and I were on the phone for the better part of a half hour while she checked various folders and places and computers looking for my order.

To make a long (and very infuriating) story shorter, Lee apparently has no record of my order for this group buy. Apparently they either never recieved it (I sent it priority mail) or it was lost after it was in their hands. Judging from my talk with Mary, either is possible. The bottom line is they do not have the order and the molds are not in line to be cut.

After I got off the phone with Lee, I called the post office (I used postal money orders for payment) and learned that the money orders have not been cashed.

I asked Mary if I resubmitted the buy now, what the turn arund time would be, considering the circumstance. She told me 11-13 months.

So there it is gentlemen, the molds are not coming.

I feel terrible about this. I should have followed up with Lee much sooner. I just didn't bother in light of the length of time that I knew other GBs had taken. I make no excuses however, the blame lies with me and I ask each of you to accept my apology for screwing this up.

I think the best course of action is for me to just refund everyones payment. Then if someone wants to rerun this buy we can entertain that idea.

I will leave this as a sticky for a day or two, then I'll start PMing individual members if I haven't heard from them. As you read this, please PM and verify that your amiling address has not changed and I'll get a refund to you ASAP. Please understand that this will take me a little time to get everyones refund to them, I'll have to mail a few out each day as I hear from each member.

Again, please understand how terrible I feel about this whole debacle. It is my fault alone and I ask each of you individually to accept my sincerest apology.

Gents,
It seems that not only does one have to put up with 11-13 months of waiting time but when you honcho a buy you must make sure the money orders are cashed.

Does one also need to do the "wiping" for the management of Lee also?

Words can not express when it comes to "leementing"

With the lead time stretching out so far, I would pay the extra for a different vendor here also. Over a year is getting to be a little crazy. I like the moulds and all but by the time I get one, I'll have lost interest in that rifle maybe.

IMHO, Lee is out as a vendor for this one.

It does sound as though the mailing to them was lost by USPS, so not really the fault of Lee, but 12 or more months additional waiting for them to perform is not in the cards for me. Besides, I'm not sure I trust them to get the Loverin design done properly anyway.

However, I ordered this mould because I want that design. Both for the 8mm and, maybe, the .32 Special.

What are the chances of an NEI Aluminum in 4 C, or maybe a brass 3 C from OWBM, or other vendor?

West Creek

Dont sweat the BS you get from Lee. There is no excuse for their Loooong lead times except that I'm guessing they only work on them in their spare time and just really don't care about the service except to fill in dead time on the production line.

I'll take the refund and let this one go.

Please drop me a PM to confirm your address (and Dans) and I'll get a refund to you.

Since MiHec is making molds of high quality and good dleivery, so we give him this drawing and see what he could do in 2 cavity or 6 cavity mold. What do you think.

But that doesn't change the fact that I DO want this design. So, how many want to go with it?

Lee is out as far as I'm concerned, and Mihec is buried with other designs, so lets try Swede and see what his time line looks like. Then we can start looking for obligations to produce it.

Actually, I think we should start a new thread as this one has a lot of negative connotations.

Mihec is up to his ears in group buys right now. I know I'm waiting on at least two of them to get off the ground.

So I wonder if Swede Nelson would be willing to put this one on his list of "projects" to work out?

I don't remember what the minimum is, but I'd bet we could syndicate this one in a month or so, or maybe a little longer.

It's not like I have a bottomless pocketbook now that the messiah is in charge, but I really do like the design and think this would work well in both the 8mm and, sized a bit more, in the .32 Winchester Special.

............I know you didn't lose the mail, and you're involved with a fight with the post office over recovery. The fact that you're paying reimbursement out of your pocket shows you're a genuine responsible person, and they're few and far between these days.

Would it be possible for you to list the zips of those still waiting? It would probably be VERY helpfull.

Gents,

Sorry for the delay since the last update, things have been rough around here the last couple weeks.

Paying these refunds out of pocket has been a strain on me, since I am self employed and work is not gaurenteed, so I spoke with an attorney about this matter. He is going to write a letter for me, and send it to the postmaster demanding immediate action. I had to pay him an hours work for that, but I felt it was worth it to try to get something resolved here, as I am left looking bad here due the post offices screw up. The assistant to the attorney said the letter should go out friday or monday.

I haven't sent out any refunds for a couple weeks, partly due to paying this attorney. I am sending out 1 or 2 on weds.

Please do list your zip code if I have not contacted you via PM, I want to make sure my records are accurate too. I especially appreciate those who have PMed me telling me that they were in no hurry, it has helped tremendously.

I will update again as soon as I get a response from the attorney letter.

Gentlemen,

Here is a list of the refunds (zip codes) that have been sent/

63026 (2)
44614
72034

I just finished a job today, I will bill the contractor tomorrow and as soon as I'm paid I'll send another refund, probably two.

I also recieved a voicemail today while I was working from the attorneys secretary. They need me to stop by their office tomorrow for something. She didn't say what. So, maybe I'll have some good news tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted.

Was $80.
No panic on my behalf.
Will probably get in on another NOE mould so may be easier to send my refund to Al!

Gents,

I went to the attorney yesterday, hoping for good news. I had to fill out an affidavit, telling what happened and have it notorized. The legal assistant didn't know what the attorney needed it for, she said she'd have him call me.

Just wanted to let you guys know where we're at on this.

Just curious as to whether anyone else has ever had to claim a refund on a USPS Money Order?

If SSB is having a typical experience then it makes you wonder why anyone would buy the damn things? I always paid Lee with a personal check - knowing that there was certainly time for them to cash it, and that the canceled check would be an acknowledgment that they had the order.

However, most of the dealers on AuctionArms and GunBroker strongly prefer a USPS Money Order. If this is typical of the "refund policy" of the USPS, then I'm sure not going to buy 'em any more..............

A gunsmith buddy and I do a combined sales buisness on Gunbroker . And as you say , if they don't send me a Money Order or a Bankdraft from a major US bank they ain't getting what they bid on .

I will tell you this , it has gotten so bad with folks making false MO's and Certified Checks that my bank usually puts a hold on funds from these sources for 5 days after deposit .

I sent a guy in Florida a couple weeks ago a bankdraft from Banl of America and he sat on the check for 7 days even though it was certified . I typically send out the item the day I recieve the funds or the next buisness day that UPS is running and I have yet to be bit in the butt .

Gents,

Sorry I haven't updated lately, I just spent a few days in the hospital. I got dehydrated from the flu, it sucked.

I spoke with the attorney this morning. He told me that he has talked to someone at the p.o. fraud dept and that my refund is 'in process". Great news. He didn't have a time frame, but at least there's now some action.

Since I don't know how long "in process" will take, I'm still going to send refunds out of my pocket until I get my $$.

I have a small job to start monday (if I get to feeling better) so I'll be able to send at least one refund early next week.

Not much to update, but wanted to post something.

I recieved a letter saturday from the p.o., telling me what the attorney already told me about the refund being in process.

Didn't work at all this week, I still feel like doo doo from this flu. Going to try to work tuesday, as I'm feeling better everyday. I'll post the zip codes of any refunds I get to send out this week.

Gents,

Sorry I haven't updated lately, there has been nothing to report, which is getting so frustrating. This has gotten to the point that it's weighing on my mind all the time, so I have made a decision.

Work has been so slow for me lately that I haven't had the $$ to issue any more refunds, and I still haven't recieved anything from USPS (I check with them weekly), so on friday morning I have an appointment with my bank. I'm going to see about getting a loan against my business so that I can clear this up. It will depend on the interest rate, since I have no real idea when I'm going to stop being jerked around by USPS and get my own money back.

I'll let everyone know when/if I'm able to get the loan.

Sorry.

Sorry gents for the lack of a recent update, but I FINALLY have some resolution to this mess.

I've been working out of town (thus no computer access for updates) on a fire restoration job that I'm subbing for a contractor friend of mine. I didn't work today because we're getting hammered by snow here, but the job will be finished in 2 days (weather permitting), then I can submit the invoice to the insurance company and get paid about $7,000. As soon as I recieve that check, EVERYONE will get their refund in full. By that time I may also get something from the p.o., but either way this thing will FINALLY be done within the next 2 or 3 weeks.

I once again apologize for all this mess and I want to sincerely thank ALL OF YOU for being patient with me. This has been a very rough time for me with this hanging over my head. I hate to owe people money, especially people that I consider friends.

I'll let everyone know when I get the check from the insurance company, then it'll take me a few days to get all the money orders and envelopes ready.

Gents,

For some reason, my PMs will not delete. I have no idea why, I've tried twice, when I log back in they're still there. CAN A MODERATOR HELP ME HERE? I'll try again tonight.

Brett, I understand your frustration, but I AM sending these refunds when I'm home from work. I only make it home about every 10 days, just enough time to do laundry and resupplly before I head back to the job site. Please bear with me, I hate working so far from home, but I have to make the money while I can. If your addy is still unchanged, I'll send your refund on my next trip to the p.o.. If I don't have my PMs figured out, let me know here that your addy is still the same. I do have a couple of others that have confirmed their addresses and I'm making their refunds tonight.

Again gents, i'm so sorry for all of this, I never wanted all this trouble when I agreed to honcho this buy. Everything bad that can happen has happened and I'm sick about it, but I'm resolving this mess as I can.

jim4065

Amazing. I wish that I had a tenth of the patience shown here. Just think - ALL of this could have been avoided if the Honcho had used a personal check instead of a Postal Money Order to pay for the order. There should be a "Tips for New Honchos" section which stresses this point (along with some others). This scenario has occurred before and will probably happen again if no one takes steps to educate new honchos. It's also apparent that Lee should have the basic common sense to acknowledge orders when placed, particularly orders with lead times over a month. :coffeecom
