Back in the '70's there was a company (Star Reloading) that made an extremely accurate, swaged, hollow-base, .38 Spl wadcutter (148 gr). Does anyone have a recommendation on who is currently producing what I would call 'competition grade wadcutters ? THANKS, John N.

Hornady has a good one too.

I used to shoot the Remington bullet HBWC but I am not sure if they sell it anymore.

Thanks for that link Phineas.

They have free shipping on orders over 1,000 projectiles. It's not worth my time to cast, size and lube that many 38 boolits at their reasonable prices along with free shipping and not tax. 2,000 on the way.

I have had good accuracy with Speer HBWC. I don't believe they are competition grade, but they are swaged and well made.

THANKS ALL........appreciate the recommendations..... I thought I had enough stashed from the '70's but seem to be running low ..... but there is also the possibility that old age is forgetting where I put things!!!

I'd be tempted to try a double ended cast wadcutter.. with the sprue facing front. The reason I say this is all my bottom cut SWC's group to 1" at 25 yards double action. A particular favorite is the Lee 105 (I know, not a WC and I've not papered it at 50 yards) To be honest, when I did compete in PPC back in the day, it was with factory ammunition and they were free.. loaded with swaged slugs but I'm just saying.

Meister no longer makes the hard swaged HBWC. I thought I had enough stashed too. When I saw I was running low, I went to their site and couldn't find them. A call revealed they'd been discontinued, no old stock was available, and the tooling was gone. They sent me a sample of their DEWC - not bad but not what I need. So I had one of the execrable DC 148 WC molds; thinking they must surely have redesigned it by now, so I ordered the six cav. Better than before but they still haven't learned what the front band should be. Then, I found CastBoolits and discovered MP Molds and their Cramer HBWC. Knowing a good thing when I see it, I got a .310 for my .30C BH (just because), a .358 for my 66, 686 & 27 and my shootin' partner, a .411 for his 57, and a .432 for my 29 & the other safeload of .44s. If I had a .45 revolver I'd have bought that one too. Our season starts at the end of April and runs through October, so I have a couple of weeks to get the molds figured out and enough cast, culled, sized & loaded for two .38s, two .41s, a .44, a nine & a .45 for eight to ten matches plus load development, zeroing & practice. Do I believe in HBWCs? Enough to cast my own for match use? Yep. Of course they get inspected and weighed, and right now I have such a high reject rate that I'm considering marking the 'almost perfect' ones for practice. My next batch of wadcutter alloy will have a bit of tin, and that along with more break-in on the molds and more familiarity with them should result in a little better fillout and less rejects.
If the cast HBWC was not a viable choice for match ammo, there wouldn't have been such a huge response to that last rerun.

What I was trying to say is I would not discount casting your own for "competition" "wadcutting".
