That hurts me just to hear you tell about it. They are truly a member of the family. There is only one problem with dogs, they just don't live long enough!

I feel your loss! My last dog lasted 16 years, and the one before that lived 15 years. At my age, I feel getting another dog would be unfair to all concerned as it is likely it would fall to one of my kids to look after him/her when I am gone.

Aye, it is never easy. One of ours is not expected to make it through the year - what do the vets know anyway. Sorry for your loss.

Deepest condolences friend. I had to put down my yellow lab this morning. He was in terrible shape the last couple of days. He couldnt eat, drink or walk. Both hips were out of place as well. Noah was his name and he was 14 years old. He was a wonderful companion, hunting partner, loved his family and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. I just could not bear to see him in pain any longer. So long my friend.

Thanks, everyone.

Lab, condolences to you as well. Roxy had the same issues as Noah plus had cancer that caused a lot of fluid and swelling in her abdomen.

As much as it pained us to put her down, it broke our heart to see her suffering.

And on the 9th Day

God looked down on his wide eyed children and said they need a companion

So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody to wake up and give kisses, pee on a tree, sleep all day, wake up again, give more kisses, and then stay up till midnight basking in the glow of the television set.

So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody willing to sit, then stay, then roll over then with no ego or complaint dress in hats they do not need and costumes they do not understand. I need somebody who can break wind without a first thought or second thought. Who can chase tails, sniff crotches, fetch sticks and lift spirits with a lick. Somebody no matter what you didn’t do, or couldn’t take, or didn’t win, or couldn’t make will love you without judgment just the same.

So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody strong enough to pull sleds and find bombs, yet gentle enough to love babies and lead the blind. Somebody who will spend all day on a couch with the resting head and supportive eyes to lift the spirits of a broken heart.

So God made a Dog

It had to be somebody who would remain patient and loyal even thru loneliness. Somebody to care, cuddle, snuggle and nuzzle, and cheer and charm and snore and slobber and eat the trash and chase the squirrels. Somebody who would bring a family together with selflessness of an open heart. Somebody who would bark, and then pant, and then reply with the rapid wag of tail when their best friend says lets go for a ride in the car.

So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody who would stand at your side when the world around you collapses. Somebody to lie next to you during the long nights of pain and sorrow when it hurts to move, or talk, or think, or be. Somebody to stand guard, play games, snore for hours, and repeat as needed. Somebody to give you strength when you have none of your own. Somebody to fight when you have no fight left, to hold onto your soul as if it were their favorite toy, playing tug of war to keep you in this world. Somebody to be your companion and guide in this world and the next. Somebody to wait for you on the other side or stand guard in your absence until they can join you for eternity.

So God made a Dog

Their lives are short but they pack more love into that space than a human does in their lifespan.

Sorry for your loss, I went through that two weeks ago. IMO, the best way to get through it, go get another pup!!

Sorry to hear of this - it's one of the toughest things you have to do in your life. But aren't you glad you knew her. A good dog is one of the best things you can ever experience.

Condolences. My Boudreaux is eight now and I'm already dreading what's down the road for him. We lost two of his puppies, one at four months to Chagas' Disease and one in the latest litter that failed to thrive.

Mark - mine too.
DLC - can I please steal that?

Like many others have said. I'm sorry for your loss, I had to take my "puppy" in last June, and still grieve. They sure give us a lot of love. I know in some language, dog = love.

To all who have lost their friends recently, I know exactly how you feel. I lost my best friend 5 weeks ago. The day I picked up his ashes, I brought in my new pup for his first shots. A pup will distract you from your sorrow a little bit. Never knew how spoiled I was to have all older dogs. I need to look for some of my missing socks as the pup likes to hide them

It's always been hard for me to know what to say. They are a man's best friend for a reason. As I type this my eyes are getting wet as I have a 12 yr old chidox that is having walking problems. Not hurting any yet but I don't think she will last too long. She rolls on her back and is like a turtle. I feel for you.

I know how you feel. We have had German Shepherds for over 40 years and they live roughly 10 years. Its worse than loosing a family member. The grief is real and you need to allow yourself time. My suggestion when your ready is to purchase another dog as it helps to get over your loss and you need a buddy again.

All my engraving is word of mouth only. A website was costing me to much so I dropped it. I can also do pictures on wood that people like

Partner lived to be 15, and as part wolf, he should have never made it. It was hard.
Buster just turned 8 this month. He is a Border Collie, and is always active, however he is starting to slow down, and I am sure his days will be shorter. I am also sure he will cross over when it will be a tough time for me, 'cause he always knows how to get in the way..........and I sill miss it.
Sorry for your loss
