I'd like to start casting for rifle. I am interested in plinking mostly. I'll be loading for a Ruger M77 Mark II in .308 Win. Twist is 1 in 10. I've been casting pistol bullets for years, so I'm in good shape equipment wise. All I need is a good mold and some gas checks. :)

I am intersted in a Lyman 2-cav GC bullet. Any suggestions?

Happy New Year :drinks:

I'd look at the 115 grain Lyman pointed gas check (311359) 30 carbine boolit, there's a 112 grain FNGC #311316, and also a 120 grain RNGC # 311576. That's if you want to go to higher velcities (for hunting purposes maybe). There are quite a number of lighter booits for 32 cal. pistols with plain bases if you really meant plink. Search the threads here for heavier boolits that most use for target shooting and big game hunting.

Lyman 308284 is a classic, 308332 or 334 if you can find one, and the RCBS 30-180 Sil is another good option.

As a cross reference you might go over th the cast bullet association website and look at equipment lists.

Lyman's 311291 (RNGC) and 311041 (FPGC) both shoot quite well in both my M700 .308 and K31 Schmidt-Rubin. Matter of fact, out of the .308 the 311291 over 30-31 gr of AA2015 actually groups BETTER at 100 yds than factory-load 150 gr JBs.

All previously mentioned moulds are good choices, some better for "plinking than others. Let me add another option which I belive is a good "crossover bullet from plinking to use for hunting should you want to try that. It is the RCBS 30-150-FN. It is light enough that it is economical to cast, is GC so velocities from 800 up through 2000+ fps are easily obtained.

The RCBS 165 SIL is just the ticket for the .308. The body is short enough to stay inside of the short neck of the case. It also gives premier accuracy in my three .308s.

Thanks for all the good input. I'll be ordering a new mold shortly. :-D
