Many of those who repulsed this invasion of our sacred soil were themselves Scotti, one of the founding tribes of the South. Descendents of the Scotti include General Andrew Jackson and your humble reporter. The Battle of New Orleans was fought after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed, but before word reached the USA. Faster communication would have saved many brave men in the British Army.
