View Full Version : Will Forster seater work with oversize cast boolits?

I really dig Forster Ultra and BR seaters for my jacketed bullet loading. Will they work seating say, a .314" diameter boolit in a 303 Brit case? How about a .310" boolit in a 30-06? I'm assuming the internal dimensions are too tight to allow that, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has tried it. Thanks!

I've loaded .226 sized Bators in 222 using an old Bonanza BR seat die (same as Forster) with no issues, except I had to polish the inside of the seater plug as the Bator flat nose was cut by a sharp edge that a Spire point would never even see.

I've loaded .225s in a RCBS Competition die for .223s and .310s in a .30/06 RCBS Competition Die for the .30/06 with no problems. Guess it depends on the tolerance the manufacturer built in. Haven't tried the Forster yet./beagle

Probably not.

The sleeve portion that the bullet fits into on my .308W and .30-06 Bonanza/Forster Ultra seaters will take a .3085 bullet max. The sleeves on my .223 and 22-250 Ultra seaters will take a .2245 bullet max. The sleeve is the same in the standard Bonanza/Forster seater so they probably won't either. Those bench rest dies are for seating bullets as concentric as possible. If there was any more tolerance they would be just like any other die and not offer the precision they do.

Using over sized cast in "standard" seating dies often brings the tolerances quite close. That's why I use a Lee .308W seater as my .311 sized 311466s are a very good fit in it.

Just as a follow-up....
Yes, some Forster Ultra seaters will work with cast boolits. I used them with 303 Brit sized to .314", and 30-06 sized to .310".
