Hey, don't shoot the messenger! I'm not, repeat not, a Michael Moore fan. Actually this is the first of his writing I've even seen; I'm not political, I generally don't read this bullshit from either side. Someone, who will remain nameless, pointed it out to me. I am posting it for your amusement, maybe get Jump's heart beating a little faster. Enjoy.

Vacation is Over... an open letter from Michael Moore to George W. Bush
Friday, September 2nd, 2005
Dear Mr. Bush:
Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.
Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?
Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!
I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?
And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!
On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.
There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.
No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!
You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.
Yours,
Michael Moore

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st.

I can't believe that GARBAGE.
I'm sorry my friend, I realize you're just the messenger, but if you set foot on my property you will die quickly.
It may comfort you to know that if MM ever sets foot on my property he will die just as surely, but much much much more slowly.

...........Why would anyone want to shoot Scrounger for posting that? Obvious to me (and I'm no brain) that he held it in as much ridicule as most anyone else. Regardless what anyone thinks of Bush, I seriously doubt he was unconcerned and wasn't in communication with the people who are supposed to be responsible for reacting to such things. I think we need to back up a rethink a bit here.

On the other hand, all of us here should understand that Mr Moore has an agenda, and is the darling of those anthema to many things we hold important to us.

If you get the newspaper, surely you don't shoot the newsboy, do ya? Or the TV if you watch the news? Backyard must have a PILE of TV's out there with exploded tubes :D. Front gutter littered with young teenage bodies, maybe?

Scrounger I appreciate the post as it just renews my low personal regard for Mr Moore, and it slops over onto his batch of admirers. While in the tire store waiting room today the news had a bit with Ms Pelosi and about 15 seconds of her opportunistic venom was all I could handle. I had to go outside and poison myself with a cigarette.

I further apologize to you that you recieved such a post as you did from another member here, in response to yours.

This hurricane has had an educating effect on a lot of people that had no idea how our federal govt and posse comitus works, and no idea that there are forces of nature that can simply overwhelm anything man could put in their way.

And that an able bodied segment of our population is essentially helpless and needs constant direction and help from our govt to survive from day to day.

The whole true story of this disastor, and WHY the governer did not accept offered help from President Bush BEFORE the thing hit will hopefully all come to light if there is a 911 type comission investigation.

My wife now doesnt think I am quite as nuts to suggest we should have "get out of Dodge" gear packed and ready with many items we would need to survive for even 3 days in an unforseen emergency.

There's quite a lot of poor judgement coming to light now. I may be callus for saying so, but the biggest error I'm seeing is the Whitehouse insistance that we will rebuild N.O. NPR had a bunch of people from N.O. on and none of them had any intention of returning. The ground is Mississippi silt and the city sank more than 8 feet in 100 years with no sign of stopping. Sentiment aside, I have to question the value of throwing enormus amounts of our dollars at this problem. Might that money be better spent drastically down sizing N.O. and relocating those who have ne desire or practical means to return? This is the part of politics I despise, because no mater what choice is made it will be "wrong".

I seem to have ruffled a few feathers and now feel the need to apologize to Scrounger for my comment. It was meant as a joke, and I hope everyone took it that way. Actually if you ever set foot on my property you will hear a snapping noise, but it will be the pop top on a cold one which I will then offer you. nvbirdman
