So it's one of those rare nice days out. No rain, sun shining, above 50 degrees. And now I am faced with a conundrum. I have 240lbs of lead that needs smelted, and I have 600lbs of motorcycle that needs ridden. What to do???

Ride around looking for wheel weights. If you get enough, come on back and do some smelting.

Without a doubt, ride. I miss my bike. I gave in to the demands of my then finace and now wife. I give up the bike and she the smoking. She's back to smoking and I'm in no financial place to get another bike. Oh how I miss her.

It was awful hard to turn mine into the parking lot at work today. I'm convinced there are only two perfect motorcycling days a year, and I usually end up working both of them.

Guns and molten lead are much safer. Sell the bike and use the proceeds for tin.

Are all the cinders cleaned off the streets? If not then I'd smelt. My bike won't be leaving the garage until mid May because of this.

I never start riding til after the 3rd good rain comes. It washes off most of the sand and gravel from the intersections and corners where you have to turn. Had my front wheel skitter sideways about 3" once at 20mph, not a good feeling.

In pa we use quarry dust (crushed limestone) and no it's not all gone. That's just a part of spring riding in pa and ride I did. It was so nice I actually just wore the vest instead of jacket. Hopefully it won't rain much if at all tomorrow, just gotta keep an eye out...1 rain drop could ruin my whole day smelting lol.

Oh, and I will never sell that bike. The ol lady will go before the bike. Sure it's just a 2000 650 vstar classic but I love the look (think fatboy harley just $15k cheaper) black and chrome. Plus it was my dads and I inherited it when he passed in '06. Every time I ride he's riding with me. It was a good day.

Good for you. When its above 70 I ride my bike (bicycle to work), 20 mile round trip. Usually ride the motorcycle on the weekends or if I have to pick up something for work. This winter has sucked for riding though. Most winters there's only three or so weeks when I can't ride. Then I'm stuck filling the trucks gas tank.

Good one, trucker [smilie=2:. Having a bike that was your dad's is something very special. How many times have we wished we'd kept something that belonged to our folks, but at the time didn't think it was important.

That bike is a keeper! Riding that machine, when the weather is just right and the scenery has that "sparkle" about it is good for the soul. (Besides, the lead ain't goin' nowhere, it'll still be there come rain or shine).

I rode to the local Cabelas to window shop (just opened here), what a great day. I also have wheel weights in need of smelting but have enough ingots in stock for this years shooting. One good thing about lead, it doesn't rust away, it'll be their when you need it. Today I am going to ride in a different direction in search of powder (it's great to be retired).

Good lookin bike!

Do you ever have problems with the carbs clogging on it? I swear I was cleaning them every 6 months on the 650 V-Star in our family. I replaced the factory carbs with the setup from the link below and haven't had a problem since.

No affiliation, just a happy customer. Best thing I've done to that bike.

Nope, it runs like a champ. It even sat in storage for 7 years after dad died before I got it out and rode it. Fresh battery and gas and it fired right up. I do have to get the carbs tuned/rejetted since I replaced the factory exhaust with a set of drag pipes.

Around here, they *contaminated* our fuel supply with ethanol and with any bike that has a carb on it, it is so gummed up that it won't start if you leave it sitting up for a few months. My Harley has fuel injection and it starts right up even after sitting up for a few months, even with this **** ethanol blend that we currently are forced to use.

Unless your out lead for casting I'd ride. Around here we still have plenty of snow. Is a matter a fact it snowed last night a inch or two. At least we're getting up into the 40s during the day finally.
