On Saturday, 3/29, I got time to run the new Lee 312-155-2R mold. Had a rough time getting good boolits, mostly my fault. Guess the aluminum molds need to run a bit hotter alloy then the Lyman I normally use?
Alloy was 12# of COWW + 1.5# foundry type, BHN should be about 14. Average weight was 154.8 grains, Sd 0.64! Average diameter of bands was 0.3113". Finally cast about 475 boolits and will try them in a DPMS 300 Blackout upper if Midway gets off B/O and delivered!

Notice boolit 'points'. Mold is listed as SP but tips looks more like a drill point! This is a new mold just out of the box.

They look good! Enjoy the fun.
I have shot hundreds of those from my 300 BLK and 308 win.

I plan on using Hodgdon H110 at about 1,800 FPS. Does this fit your 312-155 shooting in 300 Blk?

aluminum molds like to see about 50-f higher temps than a comparable steel one.

don't take time to look at your bullets--just cast and after a bit you can take a break and check them out. The aluminum molds cool off quicker than iron or brass

With aluminum blocks pre-heat them on a piece of ceramic tile placed across an electric hot plate. Also use a 300 degree F Tempilstik crayon mark on the blocks to accurately determine pre-heat temperature. You should get good castings from the first pour.

Yes, our son keeps telling me to get a hot plate for mold pre-heat! Guess I had better take the good advice.

Hmmm, hot plate - I have a 2 burner one that I've been hanging onto for 20 years. Guess I have a use for it after all! Need a tile now, and I know I threw some of those out. Just get tired of looking at junk for years.

1800fps in a 16" barrel will be easy without pushing it. I too have shot a couple thousand of these in my 300blk guns. I size'em .310 with Ben's red and alum. checks.

I have this mold on the way from Midway to use in my Rem.700 .308

Do you have any pet loads with this boolit?

I'll probably start with SR4759.

I have found 18.0 gr of 1680 gives me better accuracy than any load tried so far of H110 from a 16" Remington Micro 7. Feeds ok too. I found this mold to be available in a 6-cavity version- Lee customer service gave me a link.

Would you share the link on the 6 cavity mold? I like the new 2 cavity that I have but a 6 cavity would speed things up. Thanks

rockshooter,

I e-maied Lee Precision about the 6 cavity mold and they replied it was special ordered by a vendor and was not available through them at this time. I too would appreciate you sharing the link.
