Glock G21 45ACP Shooting .452-200-RF & .452-255-RF

Was looking at maybe getting a G21, so had a few question of anyone who shot cast in their G21's. Anyone shoot a G21 with an aftermarket barrel that shot the .452-255-RF or .452-200-RF or did the hang up.

I had bad luck with aftermarket barrel. I use stock barrel no leading great accuracy and feeds about anything have not tryed the .452-255 but i plan on it for bowling pin shoots.

Glock 21's don't need aftermarket barrels. Mine shots Lee 200gr swc quit well and lee free also.

This is true, I have shot Cast from 185-230 Tc 45 cal in the factory barrel for some 16 years. Use it and after you use it, clean the *** thing. I know nothing about 9mm or 40 cal and never shot one, so I would say use causion with them as they are high pressure ammo.

I was hoping to upgrade to shooting 45 Super out of the G21, if I gotten it for a woods and 40 yard deer hunting gun.

Shot plenty lead out of all my Glocks. 45, 9mm, and 40. Just clean 'em afterwards, like you should after shooting anything. My G21 shoots 255 LRNFP/5.5 Unique with no problems at all. Kinda hefty load, but shoots well out of my G21, XD Tactical, and my 1911. Wouldn't want a steady diet of it with factory springs but it is the load I use for woods carry, on the rare occasion that I'm not carrying a .357 or .44.

I have a G21 that really loves the Lee 230Gr.TC /TL. I load it with 4.8 Gr of Trail Boss. It will shoot a ragged hole at 15~25 yds.
I also shoot the same load with the Lee 200 Gr. SWC. It shoots very well but the TC is more accurate.

This is exactly what I do except I use 4.7gr of Unique. No problems whatsoever. Almost a thousand rounds through my G21 factory barrel.

I have not run them over a chronograph yet. The recipe states 950 fps out of a 5" barrel, they feel pretty stout, but I doubt if that's the true velocity.

Not all 255's are the same; if you load the Lee 452-255-rf to a length that feeds well (in my 1911s, anyway) it is JAMMED into the powder space and I would not suggest using it with data for lighter or longer-seated bullets. I used 700-x with mine and it functioned well but I had not the faintest clue as to what sort of pressure I was dealing with so I stopped playing with it. I'd do it again in a pinch, but not often, with other, better bullets out there there's no need to force the 452-255-rf to be used where it wasn't designed to be used.

I got a NOE 452-230-HP mold and it drops around 251 grains AS A FLAT POINT and I easily got it to 900' with 800-x. That will eventually end up being my 'deer load' if I shoot a deer with the 1911. I need to kill several with the .45 Colt first, though.

Agreed, zero leading in my 21, or my friend's new 41.

Interesting. Is there something particularly different about the Glock 21 barrel, the caliber, etc., That makes it less likely to lead them other Glock barrels? Anybody have any issues with a Glock 30 OEM barrel and cast bullets? I have always used after market barrels for lead bullets in Glocks, strictly adhering to Glock's manual. The infamous Glock "kabooms" are general attributed to people ignoring this and shooting lead. But could it be it is simply more prone to be an issue of if the polygonal rifling isn't cleaned religiously as others said they do here, or the cast bullet, lube, and load isn't a good "leading resistant" combination for the model Glock in question?

OP, here's my experience -- yours may be different: I have a Storm Lake after market barrel in my G21SF, Mod3. It will cycle 200 grain LSWC's fine -- I make mine with a NOE clone of the H&G68 mold and lube/size with Whites BAC at 0.452". Accuracy and cycling are excellent with 4.5 grains of WST at 1.40" OAL with a crimp of 0.469" and Federal LPP's. This load does not lead in my gun; some of the other popular powders do produce a little leading. Realistically, it will shoot ~3.5" groups at 25 yards (my eyes, sights and from a rest).
