I just got done with making 160 of my 409 gr RCBS 11mm .446 rifle bullets. They were weighed +- .5 grains. and the hardness is 8.5 BHN. On my hardness tester my old bullets were .045 these test at .050 the hardness is as close as I could get it. These are going to be awesome in my 45 Hot Rod Hawkens. Ron

That's going to take a lot of gunpowder to get all those launched! Just curious, have you ever tried slicks in that rifle to see if you see any difference in accuracy?

i bet that .45 with shoot both grooved bullets and smooth as well as each other. sorry for repeating my self but ive found the .45 fast twist isnt fussy. mine arent and ive talked to several shooters by phone and if you get the bullet weight right it will shoot. their is getting to be more and more .45 bullet muzzleloaders out their, both inline and custom side locks. just got my new barrel .45 to day so now i have to go to work and finish that gun. it will shoot a 330 grain .440 paperpatched bullet. oregon barrel co. did a good job. nice bullets ron, show us your gun again and wrapped bullets. every time you do you make a couple of new converts.

Ron where is a good place to get a faster twist barrel for a cabelas hawken (Investarms). It is currently a 54cal 15/16 1 in 48 twist and shoots the lee hollow base ok it cast a 422gr and I use 75gr goex 3f. But I would like a lot less recoil. I put a lyman peep sight on it. I have a Lyman mold that cast a hollow base .445 (445599) around 255 gr. I would like to try paper patching it. Sorry to hi jack your thread. If you would send me a pm I would appriciate that. Also what globe sight do you use, and where do you get it?

Thanks, Bardo

That sounds like a perfect candidate for a TJ's liner. He has a bunch of different ones available in 40 or 45 caliber that would make that rifle a boolit shooting trick.

i just got a barrel yesterday i ordered 6 weeks ago from the oregon rifle barrel co. it is .450 to .458 and 1/30 twist. it will shoot a 330 grain .440 keith nosed pp bullet. why a 1/30 twist, i dont want to shoot a bigger bullet. i have a 1/28 twist one and a 1/18 twist one that shoot bigger bullets. its a lightweight gun starting at 15/16 diam in the back and tapering to 13/16 in the front at 30 inches, very ballanced. they will build and shape of barrel and any bore and depth of bore and twist. and when you say .450 thats what it is. i got a .50 from them and of my 3 .50/s theirs is the only true right on the button .50. thanks ron for posting pictures as it again is on here to raise interest for other to do what you did. my 1/18 twist is on a renagade thompson. every one ive ever talked to that has rebarreled to .45 fast twist or just built a custom love that cal. and what it can do. the othe day i was shooting my 1/18 twist with a 620 grain bullet and 100 grains of blackhorn 209 behind it and it was hitting everything i aimed at from 30 yards to 125 yards. i shot about 10 bullets and never had to clean between round with 209 powder and the bullets went down with ease all 10 shots. ron keep the posts up as converts are being made and haveing a lot of fun.
