I have a couple bows sitting around...lol

100077

100078

Those are the compounds... Got a couple recurves, and maybe a couple of flat bows... Lol. I sure love them.... I shoot easton FMJ's for hunting, and easton axis for target toys... At least the feds havent put restrictions on shipping arrow blanks yet....lol i really like the IQ sites as well... There is no kisser on my string for the carbon matrix.... Still got em on the ultra tech and the bowtech.....

Now that is sad. He would be drilling holes in me while I'm trying to hit him with my .357. I've shot 100yds but not further.

I used to practice to 100 yards with heavy bows for fun. Not much past 50-60 yards these days and wouldn't shoot at game past about 40. That is impressive. I can still play to 100 with a cross bow lol. Funny thing is this guy does better with his bow than lots of folks at the rifle range.

Haven't been much passed 120 yards with any of my bows....practice a lot at 100 with the compounds though. I would like to get a slider sight like what he has, my current 5 pin set up only gets me about 100 yards with my 355gr arrows at 338fps....

I just shoot recurves and longbows. I don't aim for five minutes before I shoot and the animals are within 30 yards. I build my own arrows out of wood (have for 45 years). I hand sharpen my tips. There are two different disciplines in archery. The super fast shooting compound with all the gadgets and the old style. I guess you can see which I prefer. There are many who think you need all the fancy stuff to hunt. I have killed eighteen elk with my bows. I tried the compound for about six years. It can be fun also. But it wasn't as fun to me.

That's some awesome shooting. I'd be lucky to group like that at half the range. I don't practice a whole ton of archery. I can hold some pretty decent groups in close, but I wouldn't consider any shot past 50 yards ethical for me.

His MOA calculations are a bit off though. The only thing I can think of is that he's considering that 10x factor compared to a rifle that he discussed. I'm sure he knows what an MOA really equals out to.

At 160 yards would a broadhead even penetrate an elks hide?

I delivered a big cnc machine to an outfit south of Salt Lake city, that made many brands of broadheads. He had warehouses full of them ready to ship, and was getting bigger. I really would have thought he had enough (that I was looking at) to supply the world for 50 years ready to ship. He probably gave me a couple of hundred assorted broadheads. I divvied them out to friends that used them.

Why Yes I do, but I got no plastic, no wheels, no trigger, just a stick with a string.

I would be very happy to be able to produce that group at half that distance.

I bet it would, how far into the chest cavity is up in the air...... he was getting good penetration on that target, on par with a 40-45 pound bow at 25 yards.

In his other videos he makes valid points about shooting long range with archery equipment. 30-50 yards after shooting 150+ makes it a gimme shot.

The thing I don't like about the video, some idiot will think it is a good idea to shoot at game at this range.

Although I know you're right, I still hope that anybody that stupid will never pick up a bow or firearm, drive a car, vote or procreate.

Don't know the weight of arrows they were throwing in the old days, but the knights in
armor at Agincourt were definitely penetrated by the British longbowmen's arrows and
I think they were at something in the 200 meter range, IIRC. Of course, the
longbows have been shown to be in the 100 lb pull range. Even thought this was
reported in contemporaneous literature, most modern scholars discounted it until
they pulled hundreds of longbows off of the Mary Rose and started testing them.
Some were 130 lb pull.

So as far as killing an elk - not sure with the light carbon arrows, but the old
longbows sure would.

The MOA equaling an inch per ten yards is an archery thing. Most archers that claim they shot MOA truly do not understand that the value of MOA at 100 yards is 1.047 inches or that it is a simple trig. function.

I love to hear that claim. When I tell them it’s 10 MOA the argument starts followed by a bet. Won a couple of six packs and a 20 dollar bill over the years.

Still very nice shooting. About twice as good as I normally do.

cam and cable "bows", plus adding in a mechanical release aid and maybe some manner of fixed sight system, are closer to a crossbow than a "real" bow. but, that's popular archery in the 21st century, and it do have its audience.

i prefer longbows, aka "traditional archery", where game of all manner is typically taken from 5 feet to 20 yards. www.tradgang.com

I'm a longtime traditional archer as well, but this guy would shoot any bow well. He is rock solid at release. Other than talking/moving almost to the release and peeking at his shot too quickly as the arrow is away, his form is pretty much perfect. I'm betting that if he would hold on target slightly longer after release his group would be even better.

Impressive...but he works at it like it's his job...still impressive on what one can achieve with some practice and good equipment.

Interesting guy, he has a lot of great tips that apply to traditional gear and modern gear.

I shoot with training wheels and without. I compete and do the bulk of my hunting with my compound. My recurves have been hunted with but I primarily use them for shooting fish, I use to shoot a lot of 3d with my custom 62# and was very good with it at one time. I just lack the extra time to stay in practice with it.
