Got a custom mold from Accurate that cast 2 boolit styles. 350 GC and 405 GC. what I need to know should I water drop or air cool the boolits? Will be made from COWW. I will be loading these over 14 or 15 GR of Unique and sized to .459 for my new Marlin GG.

I use AC 50%COWW/50%soft/pure lead in all my 45/70 loads and I run mine a bit to quite a bit warmer than you are talking about. You do not need to waterdrop your COWW and might actually find ac 50/50 to be more accurate. That is a question for professor gun to answer....as in try it several ways and see what YOUR GUN likes.

As Maximum says, the only way to know for sure is to try it. My 45 70 prefers 20:1 lead and tin, as do most(not all) of my rifles. I'm using 25gr of 2400 in mine with a 420gr bullet, have used 13gr of Unique with good results. There's no need to harden your alloy beyond 20:1 until you're a long way up the scale, if ever with a 45 70.
