interesting casting today

went out to cast some more 200gr swc today
and thought i would try and see what straight SOWW would cast like
and here are some nestled in some 50/50 lube

i found it odd that they filled easy and came out all shiny
i didnt add any tin or any thing, just kept adding more SOWW
i had no idea that it would work so well
im sure they are soft as a babies bottom, but who cares in a 700fps 45 load :grin:

I use pure PB IN MY 45 200GR swc AND 230gr HP both ES powder coated.

I'm kinda surprised that you got as good of fillout as that with pure Pb. I was helping a friend casting round balls a week or so ago from absolutely pure Pb and it was driving him nuts until I got him to fetch some solder and add 2% to the mix.

You might want the measure some of those. My experience with casting pure lead is that the boolits are smaller than WW alloy.

SOWW is fine. I have oven heat treated to 12 BHN also.

never fear they dropped plenty big
i even ran them thru the sizer as my new kart barrel is a couple tenths under .450" so .452" is going to be mighty fine
