I was contemplating loading some 168 pb Ranch Dog boolits in a 357 B&D. Due to its short neck, the entire base and part of the lube would be exposed. Would a gas checked boolit fair any better.
Any thoughts? I am sure this has been discussed before.

You don't describe the intensity of your loads ? ?

Would have a lot to do with my specific answer.

I would think something designed for the .357 Sig would work just fine. Accurate Molds has several interesting gas check designs.

The barrel I was loading for was a Thompson Contender in 357 Bains & Davis. Loads mid max.

Might be better off with a gas check design that would put the base of the gas check at least close to the bottom of the neck.
