I may have to go back to the drawing board. I think it will still work OK for big fat slow pistol Boolits, but not so much for rifle Boolits.

Angled plate 1/2" after going through 1" pressboard. Have them deflect into a steel bin with 3/8" angle iron as your corner.

Stopping rifle boolits intact is a challenge. My trap only works well for pistol but rifle boolits turn to dust. My trap is of the snail type but the radius is too small for the higher velocity rifle boolits. You are on a difficult quest I have given up on. I just keep acquiring alloy and hope it lasts longer than the rest of my trip on the mortal coil.

What did you have inside the box for filler?

Ha! I too, have had trouble even with mild 44 mag. They just vaporize. Mine is 3/8 steel on a 20-30 degree angle. I think not near enough.

My revolver boolits go though a plastic 55 gal drum full of rubber mulch after a while. It is on it's side and I shoot through a cargo belting cover on the end.
I also have a steel plate at 45* and boolits turn to dust.
The drum did catch many thousands of boolits and it is so heavy I can't even roll it. Sure not a carry around!

I have read about guys using 5gallon bucket filled with sand, and since I don't have sand, I thought I would try pea gravel. Haven't got around to it yet:coffeecom

Our cowboy bullets do end up flat and at the bottom of our steel targets. Just need to find the perfect tool to pick them up. Something like a rake but with the tangs much closer together.
Good luck on rifle--like the others they end up as dust for us.
