I think the build is finished. I ended up casting the trunnion straps out of range scrap and some brass cutoffs.
here's a picture of the new look.

43 more and a Frigate!

I've never had the desire to build a model ship until RIGHT NOW.
I wonder how to add a gun deck to my john boat?

what about a 10th scale pirate ship? lends a new meaning.... "go ahead, make my day"

A 1/10 scale pirate ship would be great, now just have to find some 1/10 scale pirates and wenches, ARRGGHH
It's to bad I sold my 14 foot sailboat, she would of looked good with the cannon strapped to the fore deck.

where did the barrel come from?

Whiterabbit, I won (sniped in the last 5 seconds) a bid on e-bay for the rough barrel casting which was unfinished or drilled. Don't know how old it was, it came with some lathe machining marks and gouges on it and looked like it was too big for the lathe they started to turn it on. No names on it or any info on where it was cast. From the tarnish on the casting I would think it had to be at least 25 years old. Hope it wasn't you I sniped it from.
I've been turning smaller desk top mortars and cannons for hoots and giggles out of bronze and brass bar stock and wanted to give a larger cannon a try. It was one of those last minute "Hey let's bid on that cannon, there is no way I can win, OOPS I won it, now what?" With shipping it cost me around $135.00 which was a real good deal for what I got. I contacted a local bronze foundry over by Sanford FL about custom casting a 12 inch Parrott barrel, the quote came back at 5 hundred smackers which is way outside my budget. The cannon was a good build but don't think I would do another one right away, it took a lot to build.
