BP on a 550; I believe it can be done quite satisfactorily if one sizes and primes off the press or merely primes. .45-70 does not always require resizing.

Now I wish I had some pics of my 375 H&H mag reloads for my brother in law...a progressive full of huge brass sure is pretty.

I'm most proud of those as they killed 2 Alaskan bison, 2 goats, and a charging grizzly in the same trip. That last one saved a mutual friends life when the bear was about 2 lengths away.

I resemble that remark.:bigsmyl2: A couple of points to keep things in prospective. By trade I am a toolmaker. By comparison reloading is low precision and no challenge. In particular I find single stations and turrets really really really boring. Did I mention I find reloading on single stations really boring?:violin:

By the time I was 15 I had loaded 50K plus on a single station press. By the time I loaded 250K all the novelty of reloading had worn off.

For me reloading is an ends to a means. I reload so I can shoot. For me reloading is work nothing more. That being said I do enjoy seeing how fine-tuned and efficient I can get the progressives running. For the over 600 yard loads I weigh all charges. I use the Dillon powder funnel die for this on both the 650's and the 1050's. I have a 24" drop tube for the 650 when I load BP on the 650. I also shoot Cowboy Action but that has almost zero accuracy requirements. I shoot NRA High Power, Long Range and BPCR competively.

Using my progressives I don't give up anything in accuracy compared to the single stations so why would I not want to use a progressive???????

I just loaded a box today on my Hornady LnL. Works great. I used Universal powder that meters very well.

You guys are the worst lot of enablers and provocateurs ever assembled in one place. I am now confronted with the sitch of having 3 rifles in 45-70 and 2 in 30-06......my caliber duplicating has been a handgun trait of mine for years, but not so much with rifles. I went to the Ponsness-Warren "semi-progressive" system for handgun and smaller rifle reloading almost 15 years ago, and it was a significant upgrade in production rate over the single stage. This system is much like a turret press, except that the shell holder does the moving instead of the tool head. If you've loaded shotshells on a MEC 600 Jr., that is a pretty close approximation. Anyway, P-W has a similar tool that will accommodate rifle-length calibers up to 375 H&H, and I'm not sure how much longer I can live without one of those for my 30-06ing and 45-70ing.

As far as the picture goes.......put the rifle in the safe, put a Glock in the nightstand, and get busy with the pretty lady. Guns are fine, but man does not live by ordnance steel alone.

I do,nt use a press for my 45.70BP rounds after they are fireformed.I just weigh my charges and Bullets.Compress the powder in a drill press to a stop and push in my bullets by hand,no crimping.My primers I punch out with a hammer and punch and fit them in a harbour press.I enjoy doing it this way and can produce enough for my requirements.i suppose if I wanted a large quantity I might use a progressive but I am always aware that they sometimes malfunction when delivering powder.

No doubt brother. I loaded some Lee 405 grains to 1800fps+ in my 1895. Even with a Kickeez slip on pad, I was bruised after just 10 rounds. I weigh 260. I do reload on a Lee loadmaster, but have no pictures. Last week I loaded 40 rounds of 45-70. To 1500fps. My limit unless its an emergency.
