Anyone ever cast for 256 win in 60 grn? Was thinking of a plinking rnd for my contender. I've seen a lot of heavier but not much on lighter. Also, does brass hold up better with cast since the developed velocities and pressures are lower? It would seem an obvious yes, but I wanted to ask.
Thanks

I bought a 6 cav oversize 25auto mold from Lee that casts at 358 and about 52gr but I have had no luck with accuracy in either the 256Win or the 25/20. I haven't messed with it a lot but so far no joy.

I don't see why something like a Lyman 257420 would not work using Lyman's Contender data. Anything from 900fps to 1800fps in there. I don't shoot a .256 Win, but do shoot several .25 cal rifles. I usually use Ranchdog's 80gr 25-20 design for plinking downloaded to 1200-1400fps. Your brass should last a long time at low pressures.

I use the Lyman 257420 with 5.0gr. Unique and a small rifle primer for 1625-1650 fps and good accuracy at 50 yds. The 257420 wieghs in at 74 grains and I size it to .258" for my Marlin 62. You might try that boolit with a tad less Unique and see what happens. Of course it has to fit the bore too.
