lyman 230v 850 watt furnace

Hello all , my kids got me a lyman big dipper furnace this past Christmas. I finally opened it up,only to find a goofy looking plug and its marked 230v 850 watts. What do I do now ?, returning isn't a option. I see plug adapters ? , but if it will run on 110 I'll just swap plugs.

At approx 1/2 output the heating element will run on 110 will that be enough to do the job not sure seems kind low

I don't know what room your drier is in but it runs on 220. Goodwill stores always have used drier pig tail harnesses cheep or if your breaker box is in the garage wire up a plug there.

Nope. If you cut the voltage in half, you get a QUARTER of the power, so your 850-watt pot is going to put out 212 watts. You can warm your coffee on it, but that's about it.

We use this trick all the time in the electrical power business. A thousand watt 240-volt heater is run at 120 volts. Gives 250 watts. Lasts forever.

IF you're of a mind to look at the math, heat is I-squared times R. If you cut the voltage in half, you get half the current. 1/2 squared is 1/4. That's how much heat you get. A quarter.

+1 on tapping the dryer circuit. Don't run them both at the at the same time though. Even if it doesn't overload the breaker, you'll suck amps so hard it'll burn the bearings out of the meter.
