Anyone here familiar with Ruger grips?
I'm looking for a pair if stock wood grips for my New model Blackhawk (manufactured in 1980). I went through a box at a hawk shop, and some looked like they would fit, but the lower pin would not line up.
Then they had a pair that fit, but the ruger medallion just had the bird on it, with no initials, and it was painted black. Looked like a cheap knock off or something.
Question is- there are some on ebay, but the sellers don't know for sure if they fit a new model blackhawk like mine.
Is there anyway to tell from the pictures?

Wow!
Hey thanks Ray, that's just what I wanted to know.
Anyone have any walnut grips for sale?

Basically all the Blackhawk grip frames made since 1963, take the same size grips, both Old and New Models, Aluminum or Steel types. Most Single Sixes use the same ones also. Super Blackhawks are bigger and Rugers made prior to 1963 used smaller grips, that's about it for differences.
If those grips that fit at the Hock Shop had Black Eagle Medallions that are a recessed Black Eagle, they are ones made prior to about 1971 or 2 and were used from 1963 to the later date. Ruger never had any lettering on them. They are sought after by Ruger Collectors and if in decent shape go for some dollars on places like E-Bay. Anywhere from $30 to $50 depending on how good they are in condition; the Black Eagle medallions alone, with no grips, go for $20 and up. Earlier Ruger grips that fit the XR-3 gripframe (pre '63) go for up to and over $100. Better go back and get those if they're decent.

Pat--
I may still have the stock set from the B-hawk x 41 Magnum I bought a couple years ago. If I can find them, they are yours. I sure as hell can't shoot a Blackhawk wearing the factory stocks.

Hey that would be fantastic Al.. [smilie=w:
I know I've got somethin' round here you can use?..
-The grips at the hawkshop fit my blackhawk, but they were cracked around the screw on the inside from someone cranking down to hard on em'. Probably could be repaired.

If they have some grips that should fit, but the pin is in the wrong place, then drill the new grips.
take the pin out of your grip frame with a punch, then line the new grip up on the frame and drill a new hole, be careful to not drill all the way through like I did with some ivory grips for my BH :(
Then do the same for the other side, put the pin back in your grip frame and install them. You could probably use some acraglass to repair the cracked grips??
