If you had to pick your all time, most favorite boolit, out all others, what is it, and what are your reasons?

Mine is the Lyman #429421 Keith-type SWC used in my .44's. I have been casting and shooting this slug since about 1973. Everything that been shot with it either drops right there, or goes down in 50 yards or less. Deer, blackbear, whatever, it blows clear through, leaves a thumb sized hole, and blood trail a blind man could follow.

Just like throwing a brick through a sheet glass window, you know what is going to happen each and every time.

The .45 250 SWC work just as well for me on game, but I have just used the #429421 so long, it is my favorite.

My "go to, git er done" boolit.

I guess mine would be this one I put together over at Accuratemolds

45-310B: http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=45-310B-D.png

Accurate from my SRH 454 Casull and BH Bisley as well as the Rossi lever action rifles. Good meplat for hunting needs at 75% and falls in between a LFN and a WFN meplat wise but leans more toward the LFN style design along with a bit shorter nose length. Tangent nose profile gives more bearing surface vs others and keeps the back end in the cylinder longer providing better alignment in the bore. Easy design to find accuracy and with multiple different powder combos.

Currently, or at least last year before the cold and snow, it was the LEE .358 125 gr RF. Accurate, and diverse. Used in 38, .357, and 9mm.

Man, tough call. I have 3 candidates. The 120 gr Willbird GB for 32-20, the 460420 Pb GB for 45-70 and the 45 Colt Cayoots kind heavy flat nose that goes about 300 gr.

I would probably go with Cayoots 45 Colt bullet.

These were coated with Hi-Tek coating and loaded over 10 gr of 105 surplus powder.

Favorite boolit?

The most honest answer I can give is . . . Lead!

I have well over 70 molds and it would be accurate to say that whichever one I'm casting with is my current favorite. After all, that's why I'm casting with it.

I like the Lee 358 158 RNFP, molds easy, loads easy, and shoots well. I just wish they made it a little heavier, like 175.

As far as casting goes? An old H&G 503 for the .44. It's a 4 holer and nothing special but I can't seem to screw this thing up. Once up to temp it drops a quartet of perfect boolits as long as I'm able to wrassle it around. Which is about 200/300 boolits before my wrist and arm is non-functional for a week. I think it weighs about 35lbs. and yes, I use a mold guide. That boolit has shot well in every .44 I've tried it in and exceptional in most cases with almost any load. I haven't tried it for hunting. The .44 seems just a little light for that work. ( note....joking) Audie...the Oldfart, fan of the .45 colt.

The one I shoot the most is the RCBS 25-85-CM. My Marlin loves it.

After a bit of thinking, I will toss an odd one out there. A Saeco #371 that drops a .361" 105gr BBTC. It works well in everything I have tried it in from .380 to .357, and even in .35 Remington as a plinker. I don't know why it works well, but it does. I have molds that are excellent in individual guns, but very few that work so well in many different ones. It doesn't hurt that it is also the smoothest casting mold I own and 3 cavity to boot.

The one i told john to cut in my blank NOE mold, I made it 4 hole, should have told him 6. No lube groove, 108gr makarov nose. I stain em with hi-tek-supercoat from Donnie & Jerry micilek. bayoubullets.net

H&G # 68. Half inch holes let the air out of anything that I have or will shoot in NEPA.

I am a 30 caliber addict, so it is easy for me.

The original Lyman, and NOE reproduction 311284. I've shot it in every 30 caliber rifle I have ever owned, including my 300H&H OM 70 with sub-moa results. It is even under 2 moa at 1068fps out of my 11" barreled 300 BLK.

If you can make good bullets this one will shoot well in anything.

I'm liking the Lee 401-175-TC. I'm a fairly recent convert to 40 S&W and these feed in two different pistols like butter and as my Dad used to say, "They look like murder!" Drop at @183 grs. so alloy's pretty soft, but no leading with reasonable loads (right at 900 fps) using White Label 2500 Plus lube.

edit: oh, it's a six-holer.

Has to be my Accurate molds H&G 68. No contest. I even love just gazing at them. Lol

359640. It emits such a satisfying sound when it hits its intended target. It also groups for me at 100 yards w/ iron sights in an 1894C. Groups are always better than patterns :)

My favorite is probably a MiHec clone of the H&G 258. It casts 223gr with my COWW alloy and 215 with a penta star HP. Havent had a chance to harvest any deer with it yet, but not for lack of trying.

Lately I have been looking closely at the WFN/LBT style boolits. But the above is still my favorite....for now anyhow.

I don't know about favorite.
I have a hard time making a 45 cal boolit work in a 30 cal rifle.
I have a couple of design features I favor over others, and sometimes they conflict between ease of casting and ease of use in the gun.

My favorite now is Lee TL 452 200 SWC. They fall out of my 6 cavity mold and they are very accurate.

I am working on another Lee boolit and as soon as i get my sizer and gas checks for it, it may very well become my new favorite. We'll see.

I have been through 4-5 429421's but really like an old Ly 454424. The ones that are shot the most would be 358156 and RCBS 180 fn 30 cal. Thank goodness it is only the internet choices and not real life.

Tough call!

Easy for me to pick my least favorite though. Lyman 457671! The thing won't shoot in ANY suitable 45 cal rifle I have- Trapdoors or Sharps.

Most favorite would be the most accurate in any caliber. Lyman 314299 in 30-06s, Lyman 287641 in 7x57s, Ideal 311316 in 32-20, a custom Mountain Molds LRN, small meplat 44 cal 420 gr for the Sharps 44-90 BN and a custom Mountain Molds LRN, small meplat 45 cal 440 gr for the Trapdoors and Sharps 45-110.
