I finally got my 250-3000 out and shot some of the reloads that came with the rifle. Loads were labled 32.9 gn 3031 under 87 gn JSP. About half of them were in Win brass the other half Rem. The primers flowed back into the firing pin hole about 3/4 of the circumfrance and the brass just ahead of the case head made a step on one side of the case. (pictures and measurements to follow). SWMBO is calling so I'll finish the info later.

Sounds like brass that is full length resized by dies that are reducing too much, loaded round is laying in bottom of the chamber on firing.

"I finally got my 250-3000 out and shot some of the reloads that came with the rifle" Scary move my friend! Oversized? Overloaded? Primer flow? Good rule my father imprinted on me if you wish to be able to still count to twenty one. ALL UNKNOWN LOADED AMMO IS COMPNONENTS! Gtek

"Good rule my father imprinted on me if you wish to be able to still count to twenty one." Glad to still have the 20 and the 1.

The photo doesn't show the out of round but maybe the primer craters show up. I haven't measured all the cases, just one. .4678 X .4711 @ 90*. I can see the raised area of the case and it is on the same side as the high part of the ring around the firing pin mark.
I hadn't considered improperly sized cases. Some loose brass that was in the bag with the ammo had some separated case heads. Guess I'll pull the rest of it down and chuck the brass. So, can I trust the powder to be as labeled or is it fertilizer? I don't realy expect an answer to that last as it's a judgement call.

I always like to buy a box of factory to test a new to me gun with. Answers lots of questions about someone else's handloads.

I checked midway, brownells, cabellas, graf and buffolo arms. None have factory ammo in stock and only buffolo arms has 87 gn loads listed. Brass is no less available. I may end up forming 22-250 brass which I find a bit ironic since the 250 savage is the parent case.
