View Full Version : Lyman 462560 Mold - Any Interest?
John Boy
12-20-2007, 11:26 AM
I was speaking with Lou Sellman, Lyman Distributor, today. He is the gentleman who got us the 45-75 mold.
Asked him if he could convince Lyman to re-introduce other molds? "Yes, if there is enough interest and Lyman agrees."
Some folks showed an interest in the Lyman 462560 ... so, how many? I'll then pass the info on to Lou to see what he make happen

3589 or 358009 is another that commands a lot of interest. Even redesigned for the 9.3 if the lube grooves were deep enough to resize to 0.360 it would be a winner. Gianni.

Gentlemen: Lou Sellman, the Lyman Distributor has been in touch with Lyman's Mold Maker. He is looking for the 462560 mold cherry and if they still have it (good probability) will make a mold to check it for specifications. Then Lyman Management will make a Go - No Go Decision.
Lou has a positive feeling that the 462560 mold will be re-introduced by Lyman. Cross your fingers.
If the answer is a GO, then I will obtain the mold price and shipping cost from Lou. I will contact each person on the Poll that indicated interest for their real name - mailing information and email address. Included when I make the contact with each will be Lou's address to send the payment and any NLT date for him to receive funds.
When John Kort (44wcf) and I put the order together for the reintroduced 45-75 mold, this process worked well - so why change.
I know that there have been 1'sy - 2'sy requests for other different molds. Not enough (min 25) to make them known to Lou which is his minimum order number. Might want to contact him directly after this order is finalized.
do you have a picture of this mold? is it singhe or double? what weight? thanks

Check out castpics. 545 grain, Flat point, Gas Check. I believe that it was strictly a single cav design due to the size of the boolit.

hi john the 462560 cherry cant be found i can have it made but lyman wants two of them to strart with. that would be close to 600.00 not sure if i could sell enough to make this worth while.
I'll go back to Lou that there are now 34 Yes's and several 'cliff hangers"
Is there a chance that another mold maker like Mountain or NEI would duplicate this boolit with regard to a group buy? Just curious, I don't know enough yet to speak intellegintly about molds or those who make them, but I sure do like the 462560 boolit and would really like to have a mold. Since they are selling so high on E-bay I can't believe there wouldn't actually be a market for them through Lyman, I think they are missing something here! :-?

The Group Buy is Dead for Now
Received an email from Lou yesterday:
Lyman requires that he pay for 2 cherries and his cash flow hurts now:
... eBay pulled his Store so he has to put out the money to put up a website to continue to seel his reloading supplies
... He bought a new trailer and while pulling it home - blew a transmission
So, it looks like the group purchase is off

John Boy,
I spoke with Lou last week. My feeling is that once he gets his store moved and his vehicle problems behind him, which could take the next three months or so, if there is still sufficient interest at that point, he would once again persue this project.

Fred Leeth will make a cherry for $50 dollars as long as he gets to keep it. He just made me a multi cavity 457125 and a 600 grain gas check 45 mold. The four cavity molds are $215 and will cast forever. His two cavity blocks are 150. Lots more than the six cavity garbage for money but a QUALITY IRON MOLD WILL LAST A LONG TIME. I just retired 457125 three cavity that has made an unbeilavable number of bullets, probably over a half a million.

I got an e-mail from Lou Sellman today asking if there is still interest in a group buy for the old Ideal 452560 mold ... his problems are behind him and would go forward with adding it to his inventory of special order molds from Lyman
If there is, I'll put together a contact list (must be 25 or more) and send it to him. The latest poll showed 38 Yes's and some maybe's.
If there any more folks that did not vote on the Poll - please do so that I can get a current complete list.

Evertt, last December, Lou Sellman did an Ideal 457192 (original 45-75 bullet) group buy for a bunch of us. The single cavity mold was $65, plus shipping
The way it works is: Lou contacts Lyman - they say Yes or No - Lou pays Lyman for the cost of the cherry (usually $600) - Lyman cuts the molds and Lou sells them

HI JOHN,
I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM LYMAN ABOUT THE EXPECTED DELIVERY DATE OF THE CHERRIES FOR THE 462560. I GAVE THEM THE ORDER TO GO AHEAD WITH IT.
I ALSO HAVE THEM SETTING UP THE 457192 RUN AGAIN. HEARD FROM A COUPLE OF THE FELLOWS WHO WANT IT AND SOME THOUGH I HAD THEM ON HAND. I DID HAVE TWO LEFT BUT THEY ARE GONE NOW.
IF THE FELLOWS WANT TO SEND IN ORDERS FOR EITHER OF THESE TWO, THIS WILL BE ON A FIRST COME BASIS. CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. I DONT DO THE CREDIT CARDS.
THE 462560 WILL BE $75.00 AND THAT IS BECAUSE THE TWO CHERRIES WILL RUN ME ABOUT 600.00 TO HAVE THEM MADE. BUT THE NICE PART OF THAT IS NO ONE ELSE WILL BE ABLE TO USE THEM.
THE 457192 WILL STILL BE $65.00
PA RESIDENTS 7% SALES TAX.
IF THEY WANT TOP PUNCHES $8.75 OR SIZEING DIES $19.50 I WILL INCLUDE THE SHIPPING WITH THE MOULD. SHIPPING WILL BE PRIORITY MAIL $10.00 TO USA.

Lou did a special order for a bunch of us - the 457192 (for 45-75). The time frame was August to January
For this bullet the process started in mid August - not even 2 1/2 months ago
Thanks for the info, I haven't participated in a group buy so didn't know the time frames, didn't mean to offend anyone just curious as to the progress.
