I am loading this bullet, with 2400 and LP. I have loaded a couple of dummy rounds using the lower crimp groove, and they fit and rotate in my 10.5" SBH cylinder fine. The books call for a COL of 1.710". Using the lower crimp groove, my dummies are 1.775". What pressure issues am I likely to see (if any), and is this safe? I will be starting at 15gr. and working up to 16.6gr. I am a rookie handloader, the last I loaded was in the mid 90's for bottleneck rifles.

You shouldnt have any issues with that.... Should shoot just fine... I dont use that load though, so your on your own there... I try to bring the col to best fill the cylinder minimizing the jump, so fine the length that works best for your gun....

Good. I didn't think about minimizing the jump. I like to experiment, but want to be safe.

Shot them today from 15 to 16gr. of 2400 today. Very easy to shoot, seem like the gun likes them. No leading. Will try up to 16.6 gr. next time (lyman book max).

I shoot that same one from my Red hawk, 21.3 gr. of 296. 1.72 oal. nice, accurate, don't kick to much.

I'm happy to see a thread on this boolit- I just cast and loaded my first few hundred. I have accurate #9, 4227, and a little bit of H110 that I don't want to burn up shooting 44s because I haven't seen more for sale in a looong time.

The #9 powder is listed for something like 16-18 grains. I started with 50 rounds at 17gn just tk get a feel for it before working up a load and really trying a bunch of stuff. At 25 yards I'm all in one hole so I might shoot a bunch more of these and wait for nice weather to hang around testing stuff all day.

What was pretty interesting is that with the boolit crimped to the top groove the powder pretty much filled up the case right to the gas check. Using the bottom groove made a little more room in there.

I could definitely feel the difference in recoil with the 310 vs a 240- felt like throwing a brick instead of a baseball. I liked it!

Remember that when seating long, you will reduce pressure, and as a result, velocity over that of a book load with a shorter OAL. If 16.6 grains was listed as max with the shorter OAL, you can likely increase that charge safely to achieve the same pressure. If you have a Chronograph, it's easy to see the effects of long Vs. short seating. Have fun.

I might add, since I tumble lube with alox, I must wipe the lube off the exposed boolit or it does not want to chamber. Course the whole thing is less nasty to handle and store when clean. I do need to get my chronograph out.
