Hello folks, I have a question for all of you levergun experts, I have a chance to pick up a minty 1976 Marlin 30AW (30-30)with a cheap cabelas scope and mounts for $300. I gather this model is the cheaper version of the 336? Are there any draw backs to this model and year? Are there any advantages to this model and year? Thanks!

i have had both and could tell no difference.
was told once the only real difference is the wood.

It is a good price for a good rifle. The scope is hardly needed on a 200 yard rifle unless you are shooting prairie dogs. If you don't like the wood, easy to change. Level of finish and wood would be only difference in this and higher grad Marlins.
