I have a bunch or pure tin and 90:10 tin lead used for plating.
Pure tin is 3/4 inch rounds, 27.6 grams each, 17 rounds per pound+
Also have some pure tin bars available.
The 90:10 is 1 inch rounds, 41.4 grams each, 11 rounds per pound

I also have some used 90:10 rounds that are rough and would sell for cheaper.

If there is any interest, I can post photos this evening.

PM or respond to this thread.

Regards!:drinks:

What are you asking for the pure tin?

ya what do you want and shipping?

400cor-bon
12-18-2007, 01:29 PM
I was thinking $12 for tin content, $11 for the 90:10
plus ACTUAL shipping cost through USPS.
I dont make $$ on shipping.
Just feeling the market- is that reasonable?
Antimony man is asking $16 . . . .

The "used" 90:10 which is pitted and a little cruddy would go for $8

I'd take 10 lbs of the 'cruddy' 90:10.

$12 dollars per pound of tin is about double what I would consider a 'good deal', based on what I have paid in the last six months. It is too close to the local retail price of of 50/50 solder...after the math has been done to find the value of the tin, alone.

I never promised a "good deal"- just looking for a fair price for the tin.
$6 a pound is really cheap . . . . IMHO . . . . .
considering tin right now is selling for $17,000 per ton
which is $8.50 a pound when you buy 2000 pounds.

Taking offers . . . . . .

ya what do you want and shipping?

USPS has a flat rate domestic priority box up to 20 pounds for $8.95 nationwide . . .

will consider other options but I believe that is about the best deal

Springfield

USPS Flat Rate box is 70 lbs domestic.

I stand corrected. The 20# limit is for International.
USPS.com is not real user friendly and I dont ship a lot.
Thanks SPFLD!

I bought 100 pounds of pure tin from Bill, handle is vp146b4, on this site a few months ago at $5 a pound. He still had more tin to sell at the time, although he may have run out by now. I considered that to be a pretty reasonable deal.

wow, I am sure gasoline is cheaper by the supertankertanker load in London than it is here.
are you guys planning a group buy any time soon?

I used the the Antimony Man's price of $16 a pound and shot for 75% of retail thinking that was fair- hence the

Will take pix and post a little later, weigh what I have, and offer lot pricing.

Good Luck Cor-Bon, Some of these guys are spoiled by low WW prices. If they knew anything about the scrap metal market, they would know that WW's bring very little because they're "Dirty". They can't be sold as lead, not only because of the antimony, but because they've got all those steel clips, which have to be melted out. It's like bringing an auto transmission or an outboard motor to a scrap metal dealer and expecting to get what you would get for aluminum cans or storm windows.

I tried to come up with a better than fair price for my FIRINIT SWL-38 95-5 solder bars, which are imported German "Lab Grade" of the highest purity, ( I had them assayed on a Kevex Mini Quant) by researching on the 'net, the prices charged by both retail hardware stores, industrial suppliers, and commercial plumbing supply houses for common, plumbing quality 95-5 solder bars, and fixing the price at 2/3 of what they charged($18/lb.). I'm sure there are those here that will find $12/lb. is too high. They evidently have a really cheap source, and I'm very happy for them.

.................400cor-bon, regardless whatever kind of deal it is, I appreciate your posting it here. The market will always decide what is and isn't a good deal.

Guys, I am troubled by responses to ads that critize the price. I'm talking in general here, not just this case. If you don't like the price, don't buy it! At the most, if you think the seller hasn't a clue, message him in private. Don't step on his action. let the buyer beware!

Just my two cents, take it for what you will. I think it is poor form.

... and of 13 total posts on the Board - 62% are related to selling the Sn and alloy.
Ergo - if indications are that the price is not 'fair' - stop trying to push it. Take some ads out in the magazines instead

Out of curiosity, what are these really nice looking marbles used for. I might get some just to play with. Since the lead content is so low, they shouldn't be "toxic" right? I'm not talking about the kids sucking on them but they would make for a very interesting marble game once tumbled smooth.

Then if the LEAD police ever come knocking at the door, I can always shoot things with a big sling shot and my cool marbles. 3/4" for the marbles 1" for shooters.

Could anyone confirm the toxicity question, (i.e. playing around with them)? I'm not up on toxicity details. I am serious:-D, I like em.

400,
You might want to delete this thread and start over with a clean slate at whatever price you have figured out, it isn't getting any better here. You have great looking stuff there.

90% Tin toxic or not??????????

Perhaps you didn't actually read the whole thread trooperdan. That could be how you missed the fact that those of us who were commenting on the price...were actually ANSWERING A QUESTION.

See if you can pick it out of this quote...

My scrap dealer here sells standard solder for $1/lb and pure sticks of tin for $2.40/lb. Is that a deal?

Honestly, if you are looking for casting metal, there are deals out there. I live in a small midwest town, and I have two scrap dealers that offer pretty good prices.

And, no shipping. :)

tin. I stockpiled a bunch a virgin tin and 90:10 planning to cast bullets. But lately I am shooting a 400 Corbon, a bottleneck pistol cartridge that uses a 155 grain 10 mm bullet at true 10 mm velocities out of a govt model.
not a real good candidate for cast bullets and love the Hornday XTPs,
so I want to sell some tin.
getting it organized. 20 # lots in gallon ziplocks fit nice in the priority flat rate box:mrgreen:

You and me both Morgan...I'd like to get in on that deal myself! I had been running a bit of a surplus of tin here, and was thinking about offering some of it at around $6-7/lb, but after seeing some of these rather savage attacks I think I'll pass.

actual this forumn is fairly civilized in comparison to some others
I guess the old saying about an armed society being a civilized one is true!
Its all good. People who cast bullets do it for the economy
so it is a given that everyone wants a deal

Actually Morgan, I don't think people really jumped all over anyone in this thread - just expressed the price it would take to garner their interest. We can all buy metals at fair market price from lots of sources - I assumed that Corbon was just asking what it would take to get us interested and we told him. I am certainly not offended by your price Corbon, but as you gathered, it is more than most here would care to pay. :-D

Lathe: I'd definitely be willing to buy tin for $6 per lb, provided shipping was economical (no more than 50% of metal costs).
