I just got a new mold. I got it from a neighbor that I have been helping with some projects in his new reloading room. He is just getting in to Reloading and casting. It's a Lyman Ideal, new in the box (orange box with the little metal corner clips), I think this one has been around for a long time just waiting for someone to love it. Its a 45 cal. #452460. It looks like it might be about a 230 gr. mold not sure though. I have not had a chance to cast with it yet. I am used to shooting .454 cal. in my two Vaquero Rugers and am just wondering how you guys think it will work in the Rugers.

452460 should be a 200 gr. SWC with 2 lube grooves if I remember correctly. It was intended as a target boolit for .45 ACP, and it does well for me in that regard.

They will probably drop a little over 200 grains, my DC and 4C both drop in the range of 205-207grains with ACWW. They shoot good in my Kimber in .45ACP, but I haven't tried them in my Vaquero.

Your POI will probably be low, given the fixed sights of the Vaquero, but maybe not; all I can say is to find a safe load and try it. Let the target tell you how it works.

I wasn't sure about the weight and it is a two groove with a slightly rounded nose. I'm hoping it will drop at a little over .452, if so it will be a good lead saver and maybe be a good plinking boolit.

I would about guarantee it will cast at least .452", I have several of them and they all do. You will probably have to use a fast powder like Bullseye to get any plinking loads to burn cleanly. I had a hard time getting a clean burn when I tried light boolits in my .45 Colts. That boolit will shoot in an inch at 25 yds. from my 1911 if I'm having a good day.

it will do pretty well.
I use it's cousin in my 45 colts and treat it like a rimmed 45 acp including taper crimping it in place.
heck it even feeds in my lever guns, it's great for light weight rock blasting.

Thanks guys, maybe there is hope for it. I'll get some cast up and report back.

I use 3.6 grs BE for my stuff - it functions the gun, and is plenty accurate. I've cast thousands of them...

Cast a bunch for the .45 colt in the Ruger Blackhawk and out to 75yds. it's one of the more accurate boolits I cast. :) A bit of Unique and some Felix lube and that thing will do 1 1/2 inch groups out to 75yds....with a scope and a sandbag. On the downside...my Remington R1 (1911) will not digest that boolit. It just won't. Tried every length from flush with the case to barely able to fit the magazine. Tried 5 different brands of magazines. It ain't happening. Audie...the Oldfart..
