Hey guys I just got a FreeChexIII gas check maker for a S&W 500 and I was wondering if someone could tell me if aluminum flashing is to thin to use for gas checks?

Not to be smart aleck, but what thickness is your flashing? The thickness of the aluminum is what determines whether the cup will crimp onto the boolit shank when you size it. Go down to the gas check forum and do some detailed reading, you'll see what I mean. I bought a FC2 privately, came with a piece of .010" material, wouldn't stick on my boolits. Needed .014 flashing to work. See what I mean? Do some reading and most if not all your questions will be answered. GW

I would hit the "gas checks" board at the bottom of this section on the main menu. These guys would know.

For most 50 S&W bullets I use .020 aluminum. Everything else falls off when crimped with a FCIII. Must work I sell some every day!

Where can I get .020 aluminum or copper? I'm still not sure if I should use aluminum since jacketed bullets are made of copper. What is the effects of aluminum?

I believe Yonky sells aluminum in that thickness. All the questions you have are answered on the GC board.

guys use aluminum all the time for GC. A cheap source is HD or Lowes in roof flashing dept. Be sure to take your own measuring device as the thickness usually isn't marked

Sorry I'm new to the iPhone application of this website. I haven't figured out how to find the GC board yet.

Thanks Walter Laich I'll bring my measuring device with me next time at HD and double check the thickness.
