for younger shooters yet(nephews, nieces, grand kids etc.)? If so what powders are you using and how much?

I load 460, not 500. But trailboss is what you want. small bullet, 75% case fill (75% of whatever is left after seating the bullet)

For "low power" but "real" loads, 4198 works well for me. 1100-1300 fps. The recoil is much more brisk than the nonexistent TB loads. But a far cry from the maxed out unnecessary loads.

I load 460 as well. Trail boss for the MP 45 270 SAA HP will give me 1,000 fps. I could use more powder but it doesn't seem as accurate and chrono numbers are not as good.

For mid power loads, I use A 5744. It will work with a 240-300 grain bullet at 1,000-1,800+ fps. It is loud and has very stiff recoil with a 240 at 1400 fps. Just like above, it is not a bunny fart load.

Win 296 is a total beast and makes the 5744 load seem normal.

I use red dot for mild 45 colt loads, but the 460 and 500 cases are huge for a powder like that, hence the trail boss.

Others can say they shot the big guns, and get to appreciate the quality of them, even if they can't handle the insane loads. For me, the light loads are cheaper and easier to shoot and don't have the noise and concussion. As cool as the big guns are, I can only tolerate so many full power loads. They can't be good for the ears, even with double protection, and I have heard of old timers ending up with damage to their hands from the harsh recoil.

Blue Dot is the powder I use for low end loads.
Email me I will send you a Excel file with a LOT of data I have shot over the years.

My only mold is a 500 grain Mountain mold and it's what I'd have to load, sorry forgot to list my mold weight before.
