Hi Folks,
am looking at a drilling.Double 14 gauge over a 11mmx65rimmed cartridge.
Running the numbers thru a conversion chart I get 433x255in.
Barrels are Damascus steel.

Any idea what 11mm cartridge this is? Maybe close to a .45?
Any help would be appreciated.

Sav, are you familiar with damascus steel? The problem is that it is impossible to know if there is rust inside of the weld structure without re-proofing each barrel. If it survives the proof it is safe to shoot.

Is it straight or bottlenecked? Maybe a .43 Spanish or .44-77 Remington? They are
very similar early BP cartridges, no idea what the metric designation is.

here is an article about 11mm Mauser - similar to the above two, but apparently 60mm long.

A list of metric cartridges. Closest is "11.2x65R Collath"

http://www.cartridge-corner.com/metric.htm

I also found a reference to 10.75x65R Collath, with no info, just the name on a German
list of cartridges.

OK HERE IS SOME INFO. A guy selling a Collath drilling in this cartridge.

http://www.gunauction.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=10345110

Excerpt:
"This W. Collath drilling is of the under lever design. It is 16 ga. x 16 ga. & 11 x 65mm. The
bores are in excellent condition, shinny with no evidence of rust or corrosion and the 11mm bore
has deep, sharp rifling. The 11x65 is the 11.15x65R LK Express aka 11mm Teschner aka 11.2x65R
Collath. A cartridge of many names, though most people like Burgsmueller 1910 simply called it the
"11x65R Drillingspatrone". Apparently it was reasonably popular in the 1890s, but about 1900 it was
quickly outmoded by the 9.3x72R. "

Sounds like finding brass may be a real challenge.

Wasn't there an article in the SSAA Sporting Shooter magazine Feb 2013 about one of these? I don't have it around it seems but I recall it had a brass that was dished on the base like a 7.62x54R. Ring any bells for anyone else?

Regardless of the 11mm cartridge, can you get 14 gauge shotshells in Australia?

Brass with the "A" head is the original Mauser brass. I have a 10.5x47R barrel on my Cape gun that uses that brass. Check Huntington's for brass, they had 9.5x47R that I necked up. Also check Buffalo Arms. They have an incredible brass list.

I doubt there is anyplace to get 14ga shells. To my knowledge Winchester developed an aluminum 14ga hull to go with a 14ga cartage gun but the guns where only experimental so only a few where made.
