Hi,
I live in Anderson, SC and last night at 1023 felt the BIGGEST EARTHQUAKE I have ever felt. I believe they said it was 4.1 magnitude. I know that is not terribly big but it shook my house for about 20 seconds. Just wondering how many of my neighbors felt it. If you felt it please post your city and state. Just curious how large an area it was felt in.

Nothing felt here in Iowa...WAIT! I was sleeping. Sounds like you didn't suffer any damage. Take a look at your foundation of your home for cracks. Check pipes water, gas, propane. Keep watching for after shocks. Is there a fault near you?

I am in lexington. There was a boom sound and the house shook just for a second.
I thought one of the pine trees in the front yard fell against the house or something else hit the house.
I got my flashlight house and walked around the outside and didn't see any damage or anything.

Ten mins later the mother in law yelled from her cave that there was a earthquake.

"""When I got married in El Cajon Californian there was an earth quake around 2AM. 26th April 1981. No foolin!"""
Sorry Bill ! That's my birthday and we may have gotten a bit too wild with the partying that night.

Anyone have a ballistic exponent for earthquake deviations?

Unless you get damage from it, no big deal. Now the wife did wake me @ 2AM to what she thought was gunshots. 3 slow then 3 more rapid. No sirens so I told her to go back to sleep. Still not normal in the city here.

Nothing her in Tidewater, VA but we are off the hard rock and into sandstone so it would be attenuated before it got here.

Greetings
Good to read there was no serious problems.
Living in a place where earthquakes are a part of life I can say they take a bit of getting used to.
Being where they are not common can really "shake" the supports loose in the thinking.

We have friends and family still in GA. It was felt in Athens. Haven't talked to my parents in the NE GA Mtns to see if they felt it or not. If later in the evening Momma may have thought it was daddy snoring in his chair in the living room. :):)

What I worry about most when word of quakes surface anywhere east of the west coast is the New Madrid fault.

That one scares me for the well being of a LOT of folks and a LOT of territory.

I am not making light of this quake in SC ....... but the above mentioned fault ............ the ramifications are beyond comprehension.

Best regards

We had some 4-4.5 earthquakes a while back. This is how we deal with them: [smilie=6:
:-D

I slept through a 6.0+ in the past. No big deal.

Of course I am used to earthquakes. The shooting range I go to is 10 miles from home. It happens to sit pretty much on the San Andreas fault line in SoCal.

I will take the earthquakes over the tornadoes, hurricanes, wet white stuff, floods, hail, freezes, etc. I just put up with the low temps getting into the mid 30's on occasion and the 20" or less of rain per year. :kidding: Just don't get me started about the Santa Ana winds or the 105 degree heat during the summer.:(

According to my uncle, the epicenter was in Washington, GA and was a direct result of buying his wife a bracelet for Valentines day...

Howdy
My wife reminded me to write... watch your critters. They will act strange before a quake. Our Spaniel would become recluse about 6 hours before a 3 and larger. Would not want to play, eat... just wanted to hide in his house. When we had a 6 he would leap straight up outdside the kitchen door and bang his rump on the door trying to get our attention.
The birds act very nervous and chirp excesively. We do not have crickets or fish around so cannot say much about them.

Didn't notice anything in the Raleigh area. I heard no mention of it on the local news.
