friend of mine inherited a round collection...(various shells and brass ...most loaded.

stuff i've never seen or heard of!

brass shot shells, aluminum shot shells some with giant boolits in them cases i've never heard of...headstamps i've never
heard of calibers you name.

now its all mine to sort ...should these be lightly cleaned to remove corrosion?

What is the headstamp of the cartridge in the fifth picture down around 5 o'clock next to the 30'06 tracer round lying on its' side?

Probably the best place to ask as to value is on a cartidge collector website.

Don't clean up any of them until you've determined value.

I see a linotype-drawer shadow box in someone's future!

Kind of sad when you think all that stuff was some guy's pride and joy.

You definanatly need to check headstamps and type and caliber. Some shells are worth alot $$, cleaning them could ruin the value. Its like that fine old Colt with 100yrs of honest wear, that someone took some steal wool to, just to shine it up alittle. Just to give you an exp. at the gun show I went to last week guy was selling individual bullets in little bags, a few he was asking $100ea for. Even if you only had a handful worht $20ea, hate to see you find that out after you "cleaned them". I say sort them, then start searching the web for what you have. Good luck.

that one was a really old 44 special

i found a few dated 1913....
some were chinese
some had fractional calibers stamped on them.
two different ones with wooden bullets.
one looks like a 9mm case with a pointy bullet seated in it ...whats odd is : the bullet part you can see is 1-1/2 times longer than the case!
with whats in the case would make it twice as long as the case.

Golly, sorting/identifying that pile of goodies would be more fun than anything on a rainy Sunday afternoon!

I'd have to see how they shot before I passed judgment on their worth.. just sayin'

You'd need a shadow box the size of Macy's window for that collection! I'd GUESS a few are quite collectable while most are just curious. IF you are really interested in their value, you MAY have to pay for a professional rating. Check with a COUPLE to get a more honest estimate.

I've inherited a couple of cartridge collections, though not that large. Get a copy of Cartridges of the World. That will help you a lot and is an interesting read.

I'm curious about the small 1911 pistol with the knife blade sticking out the front. The rest is fascinating.

Check the shot shells for RH or Robin Hood headstamps. Those are definite keepers. Have seen some, but not all, RH shells go as high as 50.00 a pop
