Trying to pick a good general purpose gas check mold for my Guide Gun.
Was really impressed with my NOE mold I got a few years back for my 303, and would like to give them another try.
I don't hunt, so mostly just looking for a good plinking bullet. Would like gas check so I can plink with authority if needed!
Rifle has Ballard style rifling, and I'd like to be able to use this bullet in my Star sizer, if possible.
Would be nice if it would work in my other 45/70's also, a H&R Buffalo Classic, and a Pedersoli Rolling Block.
Any thoughts?

how about the NOE .460 405 grain RFGC mold, I would like to have that bullet for myself, launching it about 1350 fps I could use it in my Handi rifle, 1873 Springfield and 1874 Sharps carbine. nice bullet. JimP.

Both of the RCBS Gas Check designs are verygood and a little cheaper. These iron moulds are vented verywell, durable, less prone to galling and have a lifetime warranty.

I have an NOE 330hp gc mold I fell in love with. Use's less lead per boolit but with the HP it get's the job done.

I would agree except go plain base. The check isn't needed unless you want to really go faster than 1600 fps regularly.

I have a similar bullet from an old Lee group buy and it is wonderful. Feeds great in a Marlin, easy to cast and shoot. I don't use any other 45-70 these days, just sent off my 350 RD to someone who needed one.

The RCBS is a good mould too but I prefer the nose design of the NOE and the lack of a gas check. Personal preference.

I bought the 350gr Ranch Dog four cavity mold from NOE last year. It's very accurate, 1.5" groups at 100 using a Scout scope on my GG. I bought the mold with the hollow point pin option so it casts as either a 360gr flat point or 330gr hollow point.

Lead isn't getting any easier to find so the 360gr boolit saves me some scrounging over the 405gr or heavier flavors. :)

Didn't see any molds in the 458 - 460 diameter that drop a bullet over 405 grains. Why no 500 and up grainers?

Because lots of us are shooting Marlin leverguns and a bullet that heavy eats up powder space. I also don't hunt anything big enough to need that much bullet.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was not aware I could get an NOE with the option to cast either HP or FP bullets. Very interesting!
Btroj, are you in Brownville? If so, I'm not too far away!

In Bellevue. Brownville is a 1.5 hour or so drive, not bad really.

Anything from NOE from 330 grain to 405 would be great. I like the 405 grain. Mine are plain base and I have had no problems.
