So I have made cast bullets from a Lee c309 170f mold and will be shooting them from. My pre 64 model 94 3030. My bore slugs .309 will I be ok sizing my bullets to .308 when using a gas check?

Not likely. Your boolit need to be .309 minimum .310 or .311 better yet.

I'm using .311 with the Lyman 311041 ACWW in my Trapper M94. Works great on anything up to and including our panhandle mule deer. This little rifle will shoot into a 2inch circle at 100 yds easily with factory irons if I do my part. Been thinking about going with some sort of peep sights but its fine just as is. The handful of deer and occasional coyote it has taken haven't complained, all but one were one shot kills.

I use a minimum .310" sizer for my .30 cal. bullets including the .30/30.

Your .308 sizing may work but bigger will most likely work better.

I use that mold in both my 30/03's (a Marlin and a Winchester). Based on my rifles I would ideally use a .310 sizer but I don't have one and Lee does not make one (unless through the custom shop). I know I can open up a sizer to 310 but things have worked out fine using a .311 sizer to seat the checks. This leaves the bullet basically at cast diameter.

I wouldn't count on .308 to work. I size all 30 cal (308) to .311 too.

Why do you ask? Do you already have a .308 sizer? .310 or .311 would be better, so if you are getting a sizer pick a bigger one. If you already have the .308, try it and see for yourself. I shot my first cast bullets out of a M94, they were sized .308 with a gas check loaded with a max load of 3031 and they were fine. Shot 3 MOA which was fine with me and the buckhorn sights at the time but I was not even 18 at the time so my eyesight was better then, the gun did not do much better than that with jacketed bullets. Never slugged the bore, a gun trader friend talked me out of the gun before I turned 25. The bullet were cast from COWW with a little 50/50 bar solder and maybe a few sinkers thrown in.

You can ream out your sizer die if your using a push thru sizer die, go slow and use 300 of finer on a split dowel

310 min 311 probably better.

My 1917 94 Rifle will shoot 3/8" @ 100 with 311407 sized 310.

My two carbines , 1927 saddle ring & 1942 will perform with 310.

I do get some leading after about 200 rounds.

311 cured that.

Pay the bucks, do what you have to ,to get a proper sizer .

Those guns will SHOOT with the right sized boolits !

P.S. They are a lot more accurate than people think.

More comments about me and my childhood M94 accuracy. At that time my ideas of accuracy testing was a jacket folded up on the hood of my parents car for a rest, shot in a gravel pit and the target probably would not have been store bought, distance was roughly paced off. Don't think that I could not shoot accurately, I was either #1 or #2 on my high school 4 position rifle team for each match my two last years in high school. Then I was more concerned about shooting to the point of aim than shooting small groups.

Setting the OPer's expectation of shooting sub MOA groups is setting him up for failure. A M94 and shooter that will shoot sub MOA consistantly is to rare to set him that benchmark. Yes, it probably will not happen with the .308 sizer but it probably will not happen with a .311 sizer either.
