44 Mag, 320gn FNw/GC

I don't have a mold for these, but I'd like to try them in my new to me Ruger Redhawk. I just bought 100 from an auction on GB http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=391038987 . Does anyone have load recommendations for this heavy boolit? I have Unique and 2400 on hand.

2400, L'il Gun, H110 if you roll that way. You may find some data on the 'net, but I don't have any to offer. If you start pushing to max loads that cannon is gonna sting on both ends.

I've had good luck with the LBT 320 LFN GC in my Model 83. Bullet weighs 326 gr. lubed and checked, sized to .429" with LBT blue. The FA has tight throats which require the .429" sizing. I wasn't looking for max velocity and was shooting for an accurate 1200 fps load.
I tried 3 loads; all crimped in top groove for C.O.L. of 1.705" and primed with WLP.

15.5 gr. of 2400 for 1130 fps average.
16.2 gr. of 2400 for 1174 fps average.
13.3 of Blue Dot for 1203 fps average.

It was around zero when I shot and the flyers are called by shivering operator. Here are the results at 25 yards. I chronyed on a different day and tried these loads at 50 yards and the 16.2 gr load printed a sandbag rest group of 1.2" at 50. About as good as I can hold and recoil is tolerable so load development for me stopped right there. FWIW

I would use this load for hunting white tail. I am not looking to find a max load, just an accurate one.

may want to check your accuracy at distance, I found stability problems when shooting at 100yds with the big boys. Of course I wasn't shooting that exact boolit either, just saying, you may want to verify your loads.

My big bullet for the .44 magnum is the Lee C430-310-RF-GC. I and several of my shooting friends have gotten "scary good" groups at 100 yards with that cast bullet. In the Ruger Red Hawk, my load is 21.5 grs of H110 (NOTE: This load is used with the bullet seated LONG at the crimp groove nearest the base). That will chronograph at 1300+ fps. I can testify that it is a certain stopper on a decently shot whitetail...(it was acually designed for much bigger game). In the spirit of full disclosure, Frank Siefer and I designed that bullet and then Lee put it in production. They later sized it up to a similar 300 gr bullet for the .45 Colt.

These bad boys are from the lyman 429649, weigh 340gr with pants on, and no lube... I shoot them with 16 gr of 2400 from my older taurus model 44 large frame... Recoil is manageable as the taurus has a muzzle brake.... Not as accurate with this load as the lee 310 grain though, I think dale prolly "broke the mold" when he designed that 310 when it comes to accuracy... I havent made the move with the lyman bullet to ramshot enforcer yet, but will this spring....

Using that exact bullet and exact load, I clocked it at 1279 fps at 10 feet. So call it 1290fps or so out of a 7.5" barrel Ruger SRH. It took 22 grains to break the 1300fps mark.

Congrats on your Redhawk! I have had good luck with 2400 with the 310 Lee and the 320 LBT"s in both the FA and Super Redhawk. Right around the 16 gr. level works for me in both guns with both bullets. H110/296 will give a little more velocity but 1200 fps seems like enough to me. Looking at your pics reminds me how much better looking a Redhawk is than the Super Red. The SRH is a fine gun but IMO...ugly.

That's a Lovell mount. FA lists them for $142 but I was lucky enough to find this one used/like new for half that.

I'd highly recommend the 310 Lee boolit. Cheap mold and it gets rave reviews from most here that try it. I can't say I have any experience with the 320 but with the 310 heavy charges of 2400 or H110 do well for me.

Look at 300 MP. It may speed things up without raising pressures. I've got the 340 Lyman, but I only use it in the .445. The heavy boolits scream for a slower powder, but the .44 mag. runs out of case capacity at about 270 grs., and things slow down purty much.

Worn Holster- Nice looking piece, I don't have the bullet you describe, but I do have a JDJ designed
429 that is close @ 320 gr/no GC. Cast @16 bhn with my alloy. I get 1249 fps ave 10 shots , and 3" groups @ 100 yds. Bench rest Ruger Bisley 7.5 "barrel. When I'm up to snuff. I use WW296 or H110 in the 18-21 gr range. If your gonna roll your own check the OAL for your cylinder, and throat.

OP those came from the Lee C430-310-RF mold. They work very well for my 7 1/2" SBH, seated out long in front of 16.0gr 2400 WLP primer. I get one hole groups with those cast in 50/50+2% and zero leading. This is my go to "buck buster" load for whitetail.
