I drove by the birth place of Dukes Mayonnaise this weekend. The mayonnaise all other mayonassisssessessss are judged.

Mauldin, SC. Laurens Road.

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside and out.

I am also easy to entertain.

762, I am a lover of Dukes Mayo. But you know it isn't sold everry where in the States. Used to go to carolinas to see in laws and get a case of Dukes, at that time it wasn't sold in Fl. only at certain stores.

I am sorry, but I am gagging at the thought of Any mayo as a lubricant in one of my percussion revolvers. :veryconfu

but to quote Batman: to each their own, the milkmaid said, as she fondly kissed her cow ... .... ....

My girl friend of twenty-three years has the last name Dukes. My family always used Miracle Whip but I had to convert. I got her to switch from vinegar to mustard based bar-b-que sauce so I guess we are even.

We only use by the gallon jugs. 55 gallon barrels are too hard to refrigerate.

And only HEAVY DUTY.

If ya want salad dressing mirical whuup will do, but mayonnaise means Dukes and the rest just wish they were. A pretty close second is made under the name "Sauers" who also makes Dukes.

I have never, ever, seen the attraction of mayonnaise. It's bland, tasteless stuff, compared to a good dressing such as Kraft's "Miracle Whip".... which comes in a couple different degrees of "heart seizure", namely Lite and Regular (if not more).

At least it has FLAVOR, especially compared to mayo.

There! That's my transgression/heresy for the day....

I'll weigh in on the Dukes. Nothing like a 'mater sandwich made with Dukes, good, fresh bread a slice of tomato big enough to cover a slice of bread and about 1/2" thick, salt and pepper and you got something good./beagle

YOU CAN make your own mayo, you know?

Makes about 3/4 cup
Ingredients

1 large egg yolk*
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
1/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt plus more to taste
3/4 cup canola oil, divided

Preparation

Combine egg yolk, lemon juice, vinegar, mustard, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in medium bowl. Whisk until blended and bright yellow, about 30 seconds.

Using 1/4 teaspoon measure and whisking constantly, add 1/4 cup oil to yolk mixture, a few drops at a time, about 4 minutes. Gradually add remaining 1/2 cup oil in very slow thin stream, whisking constantly, until mayonnaise is thick, about 8 minutes (mayonnaise will be lighter in color). Cover and chill. do ahead Can be made up to 2 days ahead. Keep chilled.

Variation:
To make aioli, add 1 minced garlic clove to the egg mixture, and substitute extravirgin olive oil for the canola oil.

* Raw egg is not recommended for infants, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. To avoid the risk of salmonella infection, you can use pasteurized egg yolk instead.

The fact that Duke's is not available in the northern tier of states has to be some form of communist femi-nazi plot. I love Duke's, but sadly cannot get it in Michigan unless I have a friend ship it to me. Helman's is a distant 2nd place, but it is what I get for living where I do I spose.

I've never heard of Dukes here in Texas where we don't put vinegar or mustard in our barbecue sauce.

Never saw or heard of Dukes till I moved to North Carolina several years ago and didn't understand the fuss. I bought a jar and it really does beat Hellmans, Cains or any other brand. More expensive but worth it.
