Been spreading the word that I am looking for lead. My step-father found some from a old mechanic friend of his. He dropped off this haul today for the what the salvage yard is paying $0.25/lb. At the cost it figures out to just under 300lbs. Have found some iron and zinc in it, but seems to be a very small percentage at first glance. At least I can sell it back to the local yard for the price I paid.

This was the last purchase of 200lbs of sorted lead wheel weights, unfortunately they weren't as cheap, but did come with some cast ingots in the mix.

For .25 a lb., you did really well. Everybody should be as fortunate. Congrats. Mike

My back is already not looking forward to melting 500 lbs down.

NICE!

Call me paranoid, but you might try to cut some of the ingots to see I they are really lead or if they are zinc. I just wonder who would make them then scrap them out.

Still a great haul.

I pay two and a half times that and I'll be satisfied!

BNE, I wasn't overly exited to take the ingots. The salvage yard I got those at said they ran their scanner on them, and they were lead, but I am still going to melt them down again separate. Have to look up what I should be looking for when their melted.

There are 2 usual reasons for this that I know of, a reloader/jig caster/fishing weight maker has died and relatives sold or gave away his stuff, druggies stole it and sold it for a fix. Around here at the closest bigger city to me they steal every thing that isn't bolted down and 1/2 of it that is bolted down.
