OK, I loaded up a few 45 ACP's with 5.5gr of WW-231 with 230gr lead bullet.

BUT after careful examination it's a 250gr lead bullet.

I can't find ANY load data for this wt boolit and powder charge for 45 ACP.

IS this a safe load!

I'm kind of inclined to say yes just would like to find some verification yea or nay.

OK the closest info I could find was 225gr boolits with 5.8gr WW 231 as max.

Blammer,
Sierras 50 aniversy handgun manual lists a....
240 gr -JACKETED- bullet in the 45 acp over a MAX charge of 5.4 gr of 231 OAL of 1.185 .
You look to be a bit TOO hot or right at the tilt line buddy. FWIW.......Buck

I looked around a bit and it looks kind of scary to me. If you don't want to pull the boolits and start fresh, I'd suggest loading a few more starting at 4.6 to 4.8 and working back up. Really, I think this is too hot and I would pull them. Seems that a slower powder, blue dot perhaps, would be a better choice.

I'd find me someone with a Ruger Blackhawk with a 45 ACP cylinder and have a great time shooting rather than resorting to pulling bullets. I would not shoot them in my 1911 or Smith and Wesson 25-2

thanks, as I suspected....

I just took all 50 apart and put 4.5gr back in them.

Sounds like a wise choice. Pulling boolits kind of sucks but it sure beats wrecking your gun...............or you.:drinks:

true! Took me 2 years to get rid of my pistol flinch after a bad 1911 blow up ... ouch!

Actually you were probably fine with that load, although it is a bit on the warm side, but why take the chance. Speer #11 manual lists 5.9 as the max load for a 260 gr jacketed hp and although jacketed and cast are not the same, I have never blown up a gun using jacketed information for pistol or revolver. But that being said, I have nearly beat a few guns to death with battered slides and loosened cylinders in revolvers. To my way if thinking, it is not really worth all the wear and tear and extra aggravation just to attain a few more fps by loading hot, especially in a 45. Your gains are minimal and your wear and tear on the gun is substantial.

My standard 45 auto load with a 230gr rn was always 5 grains of bullseye which corresponds to 5.5 gr of 231, but THAT WAS WITH A 230 GR BOOLIIT, not 250.

Yea, this is plinking ammo. I don't hunt with a 3" Kimber 1911.

Not enough challenge... :)
