I have a bunch of 311466 boolits now and a 30-06, with lots o prepped cases.

I have about a jillion different powders to pick from.

I'm looking for a good powder recommendation to start with and charge wt.

What say you?

I loaded that thing with RX-7 in .30-30 but danged if I can find the .30-06 data. I usually shoot something heavier in .30-06. A bit on the boring side but 11.5 gr. Unique does real well with a 150 gr. Saeco in the .30-06.

Blammer that is one mold that keeps getting away from me.I had a friend who had one and we cast LOTS of them and shot them thru many .30 cal. guns from the 30-30 ,10" contender to the 30-06. Depending on the alloy and whether target or hunting use, a charge of 23 grains to 36 grains of RX7 will get from1700 to 2450fps or so.4759 from 20 to 32 gr gets1650 to almost 2500 fps. IMR3031 from 29 to 42/43 gets 1700 to2500 fps. AS ALWAYS WORK UP TO THE MAX LOADS. I tried this bullet in a 30-30 contender 14" barrel using teflon tape and got great results. I used it for "sillywets" for a couple years, it was that accurate.

Hi again Blammer,

Thanks jhalcott for all the loads. I found my book in the garage & it says 25.5 gr. RX-7 for 1.090" @ 50 yds. Not real great but a start. I have the big brother 311467 (which someone on here let me win on E-bay) but finally realized I was bending those boolits getting them to come out of the mould. Another relative is our group buy 311407. I think these are all accurate boolits as I've had great luck with them all except the 311467 which I think is my fault. That Loverin design is a good one.

16 gr of 2400 shoots great groups in my sporterized 03A3 and a target 98. I have never needed to try another powder in the 06 with that boolit. Gianni

I have the big brother also. HOW were you "bending " them getting them out of the mold? What is your alloy? I used a Lyman #2 mix and had no problems casting or shooting them. I did take a deer with the 311466 and a few ground hogs. WW alloy seemed to be a LOT softer than my 15/16 BHN #2mix. It was almost as accurate but I had to slow it down to about 2250fps. Maybe it was a change in brass or primers, I don't know.

I was using my usual wheelweights and the slugs were sticking so bad in the mold that they would distort whacking the side of the handles with a mallet. Gotta fix that one of these days. You have any luck with the 311467?

I dont use that bullet but use 311291 with 13 gr Red Dot in my 1914 springfield.its a tack driver at 100 yds.sight set at 300 yrds. :coffee:[smilie=1::Fire:

Newtire: read someplace that one should only whack the pivot pin of mold handles to remove boolits. As my molds heat up they require less and less whacking.

I coated a cast bullet with toothpaste and spun it in the cavity to smooth the cavity up a bit one time I put a tiny brad in the sprue hole when I cast it. then removed the bullet from the cavity and "painted" it with tooth paste. Put it back in the cavity and spun it with a drill. Took about 20 seconds and it was better than anyother mold I had. Hardest part of the job was getting the wife to help tighten the drill collet.
