Ok we did 12 cases for me to try

Case's are made to be the same size as fire formed case's in that rifle

The neck , I inside reamed to take a .312 bullet ( proven size the rifle likes )
He made the ID of the case .....about .300 ( I never checked for sure )
I cut the primer pocket , for a small rifle primer
As I figured it should work and I have a lot of them to use

Well my first load was with 2400 , Winchester small rifle primer and a Ranch Dog designed 30/30 Boolit
And YES I know I left out the powder charge , but these are oddball
Don't want someone messing up

1 shot over the Croney to check FPS
I shot a 5 shot group at 50 yds and the other 6 were shot for a group at 100 yds
I need to drop the powder charge , as I was getting just over 2000 FPS
50 yds was 4 1/4" group
100 yds was 7" group

I am sure the groups will tighten up when I drop the velosity down to about 1600 FPS
All cases and primers show no signs of excess pressure

Can you post a picture of your machined cases? What material did you use?

That is a skill that could prove invaluable someday, but I hope that it just remains a great hobby.

No for pictures , as my camera died last year and I have had more pressing things to spend cash on

As for what material was used
My friend , who owns a machine shop ( and made me the cases ) said the alloy is close to factory cart. brass

That is very interesting. Thanks for sharing

Johnch the case body should last forever, primer explosion will not be able to set that shoulder back, the neck will be the weak link. Did you have to anneal necks for first firing to relieve work hardening from machinig them? I'm sure you set up outside neck diameter to a real close fit to chamber and may require no sizing or very minimal sizing. Thanks for posting.

What caliber did you turn the 30-06's into?

I know the guys with 5mm rimfires turned brass for a long time until Century started batches of ammo. The cases were harder than drawn brass and had a short case life. And thats in a super low pressure round think 20HMR.

What caliber did you turn the 30-06's into?

Turned as in lathe turned brass cases instead of extruded

OK

Dumb question. Why?

What am I missing? Did he lathe turn a brass slug and make a 30-06 case? Why? for funnsies? It is for a particular rifle? I feel I walked in 2/3 the way through the conversation.............:veryconfu

Sounds like he turned up a reduced capacity..sort of "everlasting" type case..perhaps to reduce or eliminate the variables of the std. die formed case. I did the same thing with .577 Snider & .577/.450 Martini-Henry..reduced capacity for accuracy & shoulder gratitude! Turned up for close slip-fit in chamber & snug bullet fit in mouth. No need for reloading dies.

The case has a internal dia. of .300 thus reducing case volume dramatically. This allows a small powder charge to push the boolit at high velocity. I have considered doing the same by filling an empty case with lead and drilling through at boolit diameter with a brad point bit to the flash hole.

OK, so it is a reduced volume casing in 30-06 caliber. It seems like it might have some usefulness.

Sort of like a reloadable cartridge adapter?

Yes
A lot less powder is needed as I found out

I need to have my friend make me more
So I can properly work up some loads

Using less powder to get the same velocity would be a good thing as far as saving powder goes. You are gonna need at least 10 of them though aren't you?

I have 12 of the turned cases now
I hope to get him to turn me at least 50 more , 100 would even be better
Incase I mess a neck or 2 up
