I look but don't generally buy. How can a guy not look when in a shop?

If I happen to be in a store i'll look and sometimes buy if its a decent deal and I can get it home without mailing it,most of the time though the last 2 years I haven't seen anything in a store that I wanted and almost always have to go online to get supplies. I have always liked supporting the so called brick and mortar stores but if they don't have anything they don't have anything.

I do look sometimes but my problem is. I only live about 3 miles from Arms & Ammo if any of you are familiar with them. Since they've never hiked their prices up their always low on inventory. But since I'm close I'll stop in and if they have something I use I'll buy it. I haven't had to buy much since the first Obama election, just been running on what I had. If / when we get a republican in office again I'll have to stock up. Woody

I am out of town whenever I buy or for that matter look for supplies. There are no LGS's in our town.

I look and buy when in my other home town. If nobody buys the stuff and then I go back and really need something it won't be there. Have seen too many shops go under. Window shoppers don't pay any bills.

I always like to stop into LGS's when out of town. Every once in a while you find something that really makes your day.

I like to peruse little gun shops in small towns. I have found some little gems doing this. Sometimes it is just interesting to see if the dealer knows his stuff.

Back in the days that I traveled for work I always looked for gun shops and in the old days I really found some good ones. And good buys. By the time I came in off the road 98% of them had closed and the other 2% scaled back. Most of them closed because the owners just got aged and retired. Square Shooters in Bettendorf was my favorite, urban renewal for the gambling boat took their old building. I have been retired for 3 1/2 years now and Scheels in Davenport or Fin & Feather in Ia City is it for me. No good Mom & Pop places left. I'm just glad I got to rummage around in some of them while they were there.

I always visit gun shops just to see what they got. Any of the independent shops I always try to buy something (I consider it the price of admission). Doesn't have to be something big but help them keep the doors open, used to be a box or two of .22's; now may be a tin of percussion caps or coil of cannon fuse, might be a pound of powder or brick of primers. They were kind enough to let me look and maybe answer a few questions about the area, support them so they can do the same for other shooters.

Why wouldn't I stop, look and buy if prices are right? I make time even if I don't have it.

I always do, I was taking the boys to a cub scout camp out on Friday, I googled the shops on the way and stopped at 3 of them, same story everywhere. One cool old shop had nsome used moulds I got an old 130gr 451 and 11 old tubes of lube for 1.00 each :) I assume they are lyman but the words all came off with time. No or 22lr, powders

I love to visit new shops and see what they have, also to speak with the personnel to learn about local market trends. I have found that firearm prices and availability are territorial. Items that are common in one area are rare in others. Same with pricing, what is high in one state may be different (up or down) in another. Of course I am always looking for used reloading equipment, but the finds are coming much slowed than before. While I always hit all the gun shops I can identify I have found more and better deals at pawn shops. Love to keep my options open.

If I am in an area where its easy to get to and there won't be any conflicts in other states if I do buy something, then I will check out the reloading supplies. Bought a bunch of remington o/f 308 brass for $0.05 ea that way, and a few moulds and a bit of powder.

I haven't, gave up on my LGS and Pawn shops because they don't know how to price anything. But for my birthday wife is taking me to Phoenix for my BDay for a Brewers Spring Training game good chance for me to go to Cabelas and at least get some powder and primers. But could be as bad as everywhere else too.

I invariably check, but since most of my travel involves airlines it doesn't do much good, the thought of swallowing a pound's worth of 4895-filled balloons doesn't thrill me, (not to mention recovering it):kidding: So usually I just get frustrated:roll:

I spent Christmas in South Carolina and visited 4 area shops picking up a couple of items.
It's fun to shop new places, especially the local area stores.

Made myself some 45s for tomorrow with my old used mold I scored from the out-of-town gun shop over the weekend;)

I have done that a couple of times. Didn't buy anything the first time. The 2nd time I picked up 4 lbs of 2400 and 2k primers.

If it all possible I always check out shops when out of town.

If the price is right, I buy!

+1 always look, sometimes buy. I found an 8Lb keg of powder I use for the price of 5 once when out of town, I bought!
I found shot for 1/2 the price the locals want another time, I Love Real hardware stores!
Little Ma and pa shops and restaurants are the greatest IMO.

Edit: I found a little LGS a bit out of the way(out of town in a direction I seldom head) for me about 45 min from my house that is literally Packed Floor to Ceiling(some hanging from the ceiling) with guns one time this way, the showroom isn't much more than ~15'X~15' but they have almost everything!
If you want powder you need to ask as it is not on display and until recent times that selection was really good too. I have been back many times since. Never know unless you look and ask.

I live a mile out of town, population 500 (but we do have a small shop with a few guns). Next closest town is 20 miles away, population 2,200. The closest shop with reloading supplies is 60 miles away, and they never have much. So I guess I would have to say that I buy all of my supplies when I am out of town, just the price I have to pay for being able to hunt and shoot from my back yard. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I will probably keep looking at small LGS. but my main purchases will be online even with the hazmat fee. If I can get one buddy to split it will be worth it.

I do just as a stop and poke around in gunshops/sporting goods store type of thing. If I find something at a decent price I will get it like the 2400 at $20.99 I found in one shop. I got a pound of it.

I don't travel much, but on the rare times I do, YEP I check.
today, I am going to the LGS...it's 20 miles away...I'll be looking, they are suppose to be getting in Unique and if they do, they said they'd hold a jug for me.

I have a good supply on hand due to bulk orders from years ago. I do check Armslist when I'm out of town or state to see if anyone has a firearm listed that I just *have* to have at a price that is twisting my arm.

I have a little shop here that can get it if ya need it , but I'll admit it I shop almost everything out of town . Ya see theres these carefully selected restaurants across the mall from Scheels and we stay at Boomtown cause my GF gets room deals and that's nextdoor to Cabelas, theres an icecream shop next to Sportsmans Wharhouse. Silver State arms is on the way to or from ice cream. Never underestimate the ''huh look at that .I didn't know the Eagles were having the quarterly gun show/swap this weekend again''.........

Ooopps ......er....um yes I sometimes stop into an out of town store if its not out of the way and we can spare a few minutes.....:-D:drinks:

Very nice. I wish I was that lucky.

There's another shop close by that I've heard had powder so I'll stop by there on my way home, any my FnL just gave me #2 h335 and another lb of clays, good trip. He finally gave me his dental lead a 5 gal bucket, another 5gal of frangible lead he picked up somewhere and two 45lb ww bars. I'll owe him a ton of slugs lol...
