Does anyone load this Lee TL452-230-2r? I had a mold given to me and had cast up a couple of hundred. When I set the col to where my 1911 barrel likes, it seems too deep in the case. In other words the last band of the tumble lube ridges is slightly below the case mouth. The other bullets I load seem to have just a bit of the shoulder above the case mouth which I assume helps in smoother feeding. I took the 1911 barrel out, and dropped the bullet in it until it was flush, that gave me a col of ~1.252. Any advice from someone who uses these bullets would be greatly appreciated.

First let me say I do not load this boolit. But I would not worry about oal as long as it feeds.I would start easy and work up.it head spaces on the mouth so you need something there to support a taper crimp.just seat them out a little further and try em.

I load this boolit. Make them to fit the magazine. I have about the thickness of your thumbnail over the front of the case. Works for me.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I think I will set it out of the case as suggested.

Yip just seat them so about .030 is sticking out pass the end of the case and they will feed good. Atleast that is where son-n -laws sigg required it. Oh you will probably want just a little crimp in the case just to hold the boolit in place.

If your 1911 doesn't like them. It doesn't matter how they look.
Go with function. Not looks.

under_dawg, I use the same boolit with very good results. I load it to 1.275 O.A.L. and it feeds just fine in my Dan Wesson 1911. Here is a picture of one of them loaded to that length.

I load the Lee TL452-230-2R to a Loaded Overall Cartridge Length of 1.265 for 45acp.

They feed, and pass the plunk test fine in my barrels with that OAL.

I tumble lube the boolits once in LLA, or 45-45-10, and then push em through a Lee .452 sizer die and tumble lube them again. They look like this when loaded.

Or like this, if you wipe the tumble lube off the boolit noses.

Wow! Thanks to all of you for the info and pics! I loaded a few last night with the last band just above the case. That gave me col of 1.274. I cylcled through the 1911 and everything seemed fine. I measured col after cycling and it was 1.272. I have used the method demo'd by the chart above for all my other bullets, and was "disturbed" that this tl452-230-2r sat too deep in the case when flush. As long as it functions fine and is reasonably accurate I will be happy. A friend let me borrow the mold a couple of years ago when i became interested in casting, and it works so good I hate not to use it. I use my 1911 barrel to get my col, and my Ruger SR45 seems to eat anything my 1911's will eat. I will about 50 to take to range next time and see how the do.

Understand, that although the cartridge "headspaces on the mouth", the case is shorter than the chamber - the 'endplay' between the mouth and the chamber terminus must be accommodated by the boolit. I seat my .45's (452460) so that the shoulder of the boolit protrudes about .030 (as mentioned above). No problem as long as the bbl has a leade, the boolit will engrave and provide solid chambering. I had an experience with my son's new .45 where there was NO leade in the rifling - just a square rifling entry, and my reloads wouldn't chamber. That was cured by either a new bbl or a reamer to develop a leade, CRS.
